Hello all,

Welcome to the world of MotorAdventure 1.4!

Start playing now in this simple yet VERY addictive Work In Progress. I have been developing this game for the last few weeks, and, featuring a fairly advanced softbody physics engine and a neat level editor, it won't disappoint. You control a car through a world of 2D shapes to reach the end of the level. Pass checkpoints on the way, or just play for fun!

Enjoy Playing levels, building levels, or sending your levels to other as easy-to copy and paste code!

Hey, Everyone!

A HUGE update is coming in the next few days! There has never been a better time to download this great platformer than now.

The update includes;
-A car editor (change your wheel size, shape, colours, and grip etc.)
-Improved GUI of the level editor (clickable buttons, more features, pop-up text info etc.)
-Built in levels! Even more fun without building your own levels!
-A level submit button! Send your level to us, and it could be put in a future update if it is good enough!

UPDATE!

Hi All,

An update is out!

This update includes;

-Built in levels! You don't have to build your own! (Only 2, but many more to come in future updates)
-Vastly improved GUI. Making levels just became a whole lot easier! The new GUI allows you to build great looking levels in only a few minutes!
-Glitch fixing. Loads of bugs have been removed in this version to improve your gaming experience.
-Improved physics! The car is now even more fun to drive!
-a 'Send to us' button! You can now email your levels straight to us without the hassle opening up lots of windows (needs Microsoft Outlook to be active)

So why not download and try this game? Comment on it? Send us a level? Or maybe just have fun playing?

The car physics works very well. Nicely done. But it seems the only way to finish each level is just hold the UP key constantly. So there's no real challenge. I have some suggestions:

1. Try making more complex levels where the player has to change speeds, or else he fails/restarts. That would add more variety.

2. Graphics need some work. The "blocks and blobs" world is interesting... but not very exciting. Maybe spruce things up, better backgrounds, more color variation, etc might help.

2b. ditto for sounds and music.

3. Try another host for your screenshots, so they can be displayed in your post with the image tag. Also, zip the file to reduce the 11+ Mb size.

But overall, this has the beginnings of a great game. You've got the hardest part working: the physics. Now, if you concentrate of some aesthetics you'll have a gem. So I hope you continue this. :smile: Great job so far.

Thanks for your comments,

Background editing is coming in V3, and There will (hopefully) be more music soon. I am also hoping to move to mediafire for my host. I appreciate what you mean about it being too 'easy' therefore, I am planning to add moving platforms, puzzles, items, etc in future updates. Have you tried the level editor? I was hoping for some comments for it - it's the first time I have properly tried a level editor, so I am unsure as to how it will go down with people...

Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate them.

That was fun! I agree with chance though, you need more stuff to do, and more obstacles in later levels so you're not just holding one button.
The car needs to be smaller in the view and move faster too. That way it's more of an "adventure."

I agree. I am planning to increase the maximum speed of the car and make the view window larger in later versions.

Also, future versions should include even more challenges;

Planned additions in later versions;
-Lava
-Moving platforms
-Glue (slows movement)
-Rotating platforms (adds some challenges to gameplay)
and more...

Thanks,

Zesterer

Very impressive! This game has the chance to go far. The car physics are good and the music really fits the mood. I'll give it a 9/10. I'd give it a 10/10 but there are so few levels and the graphics are in my opinion too much like jelly cars. Other than that the game is really good!

Thankyou. I will release a major update soon (next week or so) with another few levels - enough to send about half an hour playing. I may even include multiplayer or automatic update support in later versions, but for now the graphics are going to stay the same. I have neither the time, or the resources to change the graphics to become less like jellycar while avoiding pixelation.

Thanks,

Zesterer

P.S: Thanks for all these great reviews guys and gals! It's these great ratings and the view numbers that keep me motivated enough to add more updates!

I suppose I might as well bump this topic!

I might even add an update if enough people comment on it... Remember to send your levels via PM or email to get them in a future update! Looking for level designers!

As The_Legend says, it reminds me a lot of JellyCar. That's a good thing, as Jelly Car is a lot of fun. Level editor's are always a welcome addition. I have one in my own game, "Dread", and it really helps expand the replayability.

I will download it and give it a shot when I get home, and let you know what I think!

Edit: I dare say this is more fun than JellyCar! I really like how grippy the tires on the vehicle are. Even though the car was bouncy, I felt I had a lot of control. Which is a great.

It desperately needs sound effects!

The level endings were a little confusing. It needs to be more obvious that you have completed the level after touching the final flag. Like a celebration sound effect. I did like that it delayed a bit after beating the level so you could mess around briefly before moving on.

There are 4 levels in the menu, but I could only play the first 2? I tried clicking on buttons 3 and 4 but nothing happened. I hope you're planning more levels too, as 4 levels is not nearly enough for a game like this.

The level editor is good so far. It needs a description of each shape type and what it does though, as I had no idea what did what. You should center the text on the buttons better too.

Thanks for the great review! I shall fix those things you have found (mostly the fact that you cannot unlock the last 2 levels - must be a glitch...)

I shall add an update soon with many of these glitches fixed, and a shape description for each one...

Too add more levels to the game, PM me your level codes! (save them in the level editor). I would live to see your levels, and will add them into the game as an official level if I like them! Please build levels, and I will add them too the game!
