I'm looking for some feedback regarding two different graphic styles. One, which is currently used, is more matte, while the potential new one is more glossy.
Obviously either one would undergo some improvements throughout development. I've received mixed feedback so far, with some people saying the shiner colors would be too distracting and the more blending matte is the way to go, while others saying the contrast is refreshing and it makes it look more polished.

The background for the new one would be redone, likely with a brighter color scheme, as well as the magnets, goal, etc.

Without further ado, here's the screenshots:

Thanks!

The second one seems more metallic, which I assume is what the game is based around. I prefer the second one. Also the magnets probably shouldn't have that hard black edge around it

The magnets are temporary for now, they'll be redone to correspond with the style we decide on.

I think the magnets have too thick an outline, if you go with the second, which you should.

You new version is a much more fitting theme for a magnet game, it's brighter colours make it more playable as well. Only use dark colours if your going for a dark RPG or Action game, keep them dark colours well away from arcade style games like this.

I would suggest editing the stars and ball so their shading comes from the same direction because they do seem slightly out of sync at the moment, perhaps you could have the light source coming from the goal and shade them from there? It would only take 8 slightly edited sprites to achieve this effect and in my opinion it would be a worthwhile investment. And as the others have said, outlines are bad unless you're looking for a cartoony style but you've already said you're getting rid of them so I'll leave you alone on that one. ;)

Apart from that there is a big black line at the bottom, what is that and why is it being used instead of a regular tileset?

Thanks for the comments - every input counts

If you mean the ground on the original matte style, that's just the style we went with at the time.
