Adf.ly is pointless unless you actually get a decent amount of downloads. You get about $0.002 for every download (or lower if the visitors are outside the US). Since you can only withdraw your money if you have made $5 or more, you'll need 2500 downloads in order to profit anything from this. No offence, but I don't think you'll ever reach that number (most of my creations never have).if i remove the adfly links then i'll put a small advert at the top of the (new)download page, which would you prefer?

Also, the flashing image in your signature is getting complaints. I would very much like to see it removed or substantially toned down.

You could add AdSense adds.

adsense is very bad in my point of view, it gets so many complaints. They do not monitor which ads they put on.
and I have adblock too.
oh and the adfly link was removed

As for your app, it has some major flaws. selecting text is too sketchy as it seems a little inaccurate with the mouse detection, and is completely impossible to drag a shape or image without destroying your selection.
Your menu's are default context menus...the least you could do is write a small list array to draw custom menus...they're very simple to do and will work and look a hell of a lot nicer...so long as they're done right.
The menu bar is quite basic. It has no mouse over effects and when you do open a menu, it overlaps the bar.
The right click menu is very bugged as well. If you click outside of it (resulting in a 0 (false) in the menu's arguments) it erases the last character typed...or something weird, not sure exactly what's happening but it's definitely not my fault.
One of the other menus, the one that apparently 'fixes caps' does something similar to the bug above.
Adding a shape or image should give it a selection box. Something where when you select it, it selects the object, not the text near the object.
Using this selection box gives you a great option to add a handles to the object as well. one in each corner, one on each side, and maybe in one corner have a rotation handle.
Changing the font can be done via gm itself, you don't need to open up a window's dialog to do this.
This can result in different fonts, colors, etc. for individual text selections and would ultimately result in a much nicer text file.
Something I strongly suggest you think about doing is starting a fresh gmk and taking only the best, non-bugged code, and building an entirely new application.
This new application wouldn't be a text editor, but instead an image producer where you can create, save, and edit a canvas that includes objects.
These objects can be text objects, which is basically what you have now except something more like photoshop, where you can add more than one text object, drag it around, re-edit it, rotate it, etc., as well as give you the option to add your other objects like lines, rectangles, ovals, and custom imported images.
You'd be able to select any of these objects and edit them any way you'd like depending on what it is.
Everything would be able to be rotated or given effects such as glows, shadows, color overlays...and text would have these plus the option to edit it's font, style, size, etc..
With this awesome new application, you'll obviously need a fancy new gui. This is one I made a while ago. I designed it photoshop and built it in game maker.

You can see that this uses a font dialog window an old friend of mine wrote that is actually still on 64digits. Here's the link.
Please consider my suggestion as I think it will turn this lackluster application into a full blown editing program.
Good luck!
Also, no, I won't help with a gui design. Try going to google images and typing gui design. You should find your answer
Oh, and I forgot to mention something. I had closed the app and I tried deleting it and windows told me it was still running.
I checked the task manager and indeed it was, I had to end the program before being able to delete it. This should never happen.

But thanks for the suggestion, I will try to fix the bugs you mention but I won't start again. Now that I am better at gml I think I can fix most of the problems.
