Cool game... It's got a great retro feel to it! The only thing I didn't really like was the jumping... it would be better either higher or slower/longer in the air. Other than that, a great game!

As for names :

Grave Raider (LOL!)
Tomb Robber (Double LOL!)
Plunderer
Egyptian Adventure
Pyramid Prowler

All the best!

Thanks for commenting!

Nocturne: I'll play around with the gravity. Thanks for pointing that out. - Tomb Robber it is, for now.

slam drago: Yes. Crypts of Despair was a fun "mini-roguelike" project to work on.

Keep them coming, I'm off to build more levels. :thanks:

Cool game, but one of the controls was somewhat awkward, the ducking button. I would have preferred if it was the down arrow key.
There was one problem, I think it was on the 2nd level... where you would be crawling through a gap and I tried to keep crawling when there was a hole above that I could stand up in, but the game FORCED me to stand up so I got hit by a bat. That's not something you'd want to leave in a game

Nice work, though! I like the retro look and feel to the game, except the jumping doesn't seem to fit in very well, and the player needs a ladder climbing sprite.
Keep it up!

I liked it JTR. It was a great little break from writing. Though I do have some crits

-If you're going for a retro game, you need to have retro sounds. It didn't feel right hearing voice acting. I want noises that'll annoy me!
-Maybe slow down the Scorpions a little. Not too much but a little.
-You should probably make the mummies eventually die. I wasted a ton of bullets trying to kill them. Nice touch with the acid spit though
-Maybe a tutorial level?

Overall it's a good game and I'll be keeping an eye on it. And I find the having to reload your gun a fun mechanic!

-I agree the sound effects need an overhaul. Will be done, eventually.
-I'll do some experimenting with the scorpions.
-A mummy should take 6 shots to kill. If that's not the case, I have a BUG to kill. :geek:
-A tutorial could be a fun addition to the menu. Something like a shooting range/obstacle course.

Thanks for the feedback!

That's good to hear. Any thoughts on music?
I could try killing the mummy again if you like to make sure?
The scorpion thing is only noticeable when there's more than 1 in a platform. Gives you barely enough time to jump between them.

A small idea. I you have traps and hazards in levels. How about one where a version of Death Worm appears from the ground to eat you? :P Would be a nice hat tip to your earlier game.

Btw, were you intending for crumbling platforms to be un-noticeable until you step on them and it's too late?

-Music will be added later. I might give it a shot myself with a midi-sequencer.
-Yes, that would be great. I haven't encountered that problem before with the mummies.
-I know the part you're talking about, with the two scorpions. I'll fix it so it isn't so unfair.
-I've been thinking about a new enemy type. Thanks for the suggestion. ;)
-I'll have to adjust the crumbling floors a bit.

I've uploaded a more recent version.
Only 11 levels so far, (sorry) but I've included a couple of new features and tweaks for you to test.
All the bugs should be fixed, too. You can now remap the keys, but jumping and climbing are still (temporarily) sharing the same key.

One of the best retro games I have played on GMC!

What I liked:
-Awesome 8bit graphics
-Tough game, but still very playable
-Awesome sound fx
-Title and menus have a great retro feel
-Game Engine/Controls are simple yet affective

What I didn't like:
-Where is the awesome chip tunes sound track?

Great game, I will make sure to check back in for future updates.

PS if you have some time I'm looking for feedback on:

I remember playing this ages ago when you posted the first demo. I like the new intro levels leading up to the temple. How long will the whole game be? The stage with air was neat, I'd just suggest that you don't abuse this too much - It'd be cool to introduce new mechanics like that to keep the gameplay fresh, just as long as they don't get too repetitive. New traps would be great as well, the falling floors always get me by surprise and the first time I got beheaded was quite a shock too! I think the difficulty is perfect at the moment - challenging the first few times but fine once you learn how everything works. I agree that some music would be nice but you can get away without it given the style of the game.

If you need any new enemies I think Egyptian jackals would be cool, both the dog form and the half man, Anubis type look too.
