Indv v0.3.0

Exotica is still in Indv v0.3.0!! The Water is coming in soon. Really good graphics, by Tao Jaz! It DOES randomly generate ores and terrain! Now generates Trees (Work in Progress)!! Simple gravity. Self light is functioning but not included. Re-loadable map. Only 1024 by 480 (will get bigger).

We decided to move back to the development process. We have to perfect the engine first to become alpha. The next version of Exotica, our biggest version yet, will become Alpha v0.0.1. Some of the updates you will find will be:
1) Water.
2) Random Chunk Generation.
3) Inventory.
4) Crafting.
5) Free Build(Creative Mode).

That's all I can say for now, but there is over ten MAJOR updates that are comming. Ok... ill tell you 3 more:
1) Mobs
2) Save/Load
3) Menu, title, and world sizes.

Controls:

Left click blocks to destroy them.
Press R to randomly generate new terrain!
Press B to show a message. ENTER 0b23a2t5w if you want to Beta test random in game gen. WARNING!!!! Must exit game to exit Beta.
Press 0-9 or Scrol to choose a color! Glitched for some reason... ill fix!

Next Update Alpha v0.0.1 (First BIG update! :D):


Water. Like little lakes. Expect lag though.
Texture Packs
Takes a certain time to mine blocks.
Crafting!
Have all blocks. Like Creative Mode in Minecraft.
"Find The Diamonds" mini game.

This is actually pretty good - I like the block destroying effect.

The five main flaws I could pick out were:

1) The background would look better as black or sky blue.
2) You can't fall down a 1 block wide hole.
3) Sand seems to fall inconsistently.
4) The dirt and sand are mingled strangely.
5) Some blocks such as coal and sand - have the dirt's destruction animation. (ie. it's brown)

I wonder what game inspired this... Posted Image

Thanks! I worked hard on this!
1) yeah I'm gonna change that.
2) that has to do with exact collision stuff.
3) sand is actually kind of confusing. But I'll fix it.
4) yeah it would all just be dirt, but I wanted to test out sand first. :)
5) for dirt and sand it's brownish, and for all the rest it's grey... maybe I forgot to add grey to coal, or I overlapped blocks! I better check that.

inspired by Minecraft and Terraria. lol

But yeah, this is a very early demo, released for constructive criticism and to draw attention to the game. Yes, I am working on the game along with Devinit and the other 4 members. And if anyone would like to keep track of how the game is progressing, go here: http://devinitgd.blogspot.com/
The first couple updates will just be getting the engine and tiles set up. Once we have a functioning base game we'll start on adding content.
And yes, we are very serious about this and we will finish it.

Oh, and Devinit, what is the spoiler? Is that a link to Pandora or the tiles? Or is it completely unrelated? It doesn't work on my computer.

Finally got around to trying this. Not bad for a start, but definitely needs more content and some sort of goal to work towards. I'm assuming that's in the update you mentioned in the post before mine.

Anyway, due to the lack of content, there's not much to do except pick apart the small stuff:
=== One thing I noticed is that dragging the mouse will mine every block you touch. Depending on how the rest of the game turns out, this may or may not be such a good idea.
=== The stats should display constantly too, especially since you can place blocks. It'll work better once the view size is larger and you have a HUD (if you decide to go that way).
=== Your character should be able to do more than run and jump. Maybe an attack? Pushing blocks?
=== Also, where's the water? I know there was another version with water in it, which made it infinitely more fun.

P.S. "Here's some tips" and "Here's a deceptive link to give me reputation" aren't the same thing. Besides, it didn't work because it's in your signature and not attached to a specific post.

Got it. I will fix that.

Unfortunately, your game doesn't work on my computer (64bit Windows), and I really want to play it!
Can you post a mirror link that I could download to see if that works instead?
