Sometimes, in particular if I've written a long, detailed post, I'll sign it at the end still. Perhaps yours is annoying because of the emoticons

So I ask you: just because a signature is "unnecessary", does that really make it annoying...
It wasn't annoying until you made a topic about it. Now it's annoying.

Your signature is 15% of your post. So no.

I don't see anything wrong with a manual signature.I don't know if this is the right place to put this (or if there's even a place to put this on the GMC), but I hope the mods will be nice enough to at least keep this open long enough for me to get a decent answer to the question.
Those who know me around here(and pretty much anywhere online) know that I always manually sign my posts/comments with "-IMP![]()
". That's a signature that has a story behind it, but the point is that I sign my posts and have done so for about 5 years.
Now all of a sudden, people on other sites are complaining to me about it. Not just asking about it, but actively complaining. Their logic is that "we can see your name right next to your posts, so it's stupid and annoying for you to sign them". One person just went so far as to call it "spammy self-promotion".
Now, I sign my posts not for identification purposes, nor for promotion, but just because I think it's nice to take an extra 1 or 2 seconds to personalize what I write.
So I ask you: just because a signature is "unnecessary", does that really make it annoying or make it something I should feel pressured to stop doing?
Just FYI: my response has usually been "Why do you sign a snail-mail letter when your name is in the return address?" No one's answered this yet, but I've had at least 3 people on my case about this, and it gets old and frustrating fairly quickly, so I thought I'd ask around here.

But what if it's a smaller percentage? I shall now fill the rest of this post with crap to put the percentage down and therefore make TV embrace my manually added signature of awesome that is so awesome. It even h assmiley. What's even more cool, my name's in it, which instantly makes anything cool!
So.. that enough crap for ya? Is it? Is it?

The quote block serves an important purpose: Letting people know what you're referring to. Quoting your signature thing would imply you were referring to the signature, hence why I would delete it.@Dangerous_Dave: What flow? I think the quote block breaks up the flow itself, doesn't it?

Well smilies look terrible, no matter what you try to express with them.Hm. So it's the smileys within the signature that make it "annoying" to some? That's interesting, because my sig started out without any smileys, just plain "-IMP". Then I noticed my usual facetious nature sometimes didn't come across well in text, so I added the wink as a "no harm intended" thing. The one person said the wink seems arrogant, so I added the smile as a symbol of humility. And that's how my current sig came about.
I think I'll go back to just using -IMP without the smilies for a while. We'll see how everyone feels about that, then.
