Title pretty much says it all. How often do you give up on game creations? I myself have just lost hope for my most recent attempt after nearly a month of work.

Never; six years later, I'm still working on my first GM game.

I've given up on a few.. BUT

I've made a promise to myself to complete my current game or NEVER use any game making software until it's done. So... yeah.

Unless it's for the Summer Jam of course!

Constantly. Not just games, but even my writing projects (read: stories) and videos as well. Basically, I don't have the patience/attention span to work on something longer than about a month. I'm trying to force myself to finish Elementa, but I'm moving across the country and starting uni again in one month, so that interruption might just kill my attention span. Hopefully not, though.

-IMP ;) :)

*EDIT* Damn universal irony. As soon as I posted this (literally, within a second) my phone notified me of an E-Mail. That E-Mail was someone I'd worked with before on a story asking whatever happened to it  . I feels bads now.

What IMP said. Like pretty much exactly if you replace Elementa with Pirate Game that needs a better name but the amount of work I've put into the design document it should actually get finished. I find it is often that the inability to polish up the graphics that makes e give up.

I seem to recall you started other projects, that you scrapped/deleted. Or maybe that was someone else. :)

Oh yeah, there was the Half-Life 2 remake. Although, I only started that because the temporary use of a few resources from the actual game until I had my own prompted me to include more and more until I started shaping it into the remake. I abandoned it when I decided it was time to be serious about Let Live again.

I have close to 100 gmk's that sitting around, about 15 of them with considerable progress, and only 5 finished...
in a couple months hope it will be 6 finished though.

Hahahahaha all the time. I lose motivation so easily. It's bad. It's why I haven't released a single game in the past year and a half. I have loads of games that I've only just started and ideas I've experimented with. This summer I hope to actually finish one of them. We'll see...

Usually when I reach a certain amount of progress I can't stop. But other than that I have abandoned plenty. Most of them aren't much, though.

Don't like MIDI files?

Personally, I don't really "give up" on projects. I just forget about them slowly until I never load them anymore. I use the "Show 10 most recently opened games" drop-down list a lot more than I Ctrl-O files, that might be the cause.

I'm terrible for giving up at projects!
I usually just get so many different ideas that I find it hard to keep up or kick off
But then I've vowed to only post in the WIP or ask for significant help if I know I'm going to stick to it!

I've found a good way of sticking to an idea is to NOT START ANY OTHER PROJECT until the first one is finished, like a ONE AT A TIME dealio,
Like now, for instance, I have a game I'm about 70% done on (at a guess) and I REALLY want to start a new one, I'm positively itching to start this new idea so I know if I polish off this game I'll have something to look forward to, resistance is touch but resist I must, if I let this one go then I'll be left with a blank page and nothing to show for it... again >_>

Since I can't program worth ****, Im stuck constantly with concept art, musical pieces, storylines that just kinda float around in space. I'm in a constant state of pre-production and design limbo :(

Probably once every month! I'm very picky and if it takes longer than three weeks to make I'm not interested in it, though I do try and revisit them in a years rime :D ;)

Plenty, but that's OK. Some game ideas are just bad, and some of the programming work I've done is just bad, but often the best way to learn is through your mistakes. I feel like I never complete anything, but I realize I am getting better and better at what I don't complete all the time, and I figure one of these days one of the projects I've taken on as a sidethought will come out to something great.

Keep working, and get involved in the GMC Game Jam to learn how to pump out games quickly.

I give up plenty of times, but I've never regretted it, because I then an able to learn what types of games I should avoid making.

On my current project however, I'm receiving help from some of my cousins, and the one making the stroyline and game concept REALLY has interesting ideas, so I'm determined to finish this one.

I am always able to make my game engine, but I always fail at making a storyline or clever twists to gameplay, which is often the reason I give up.

This may sound crazy, but for now, I gave up on almost every project I started, some of them made it to YYG in the WIP section for a limited amount of time and were scrapped then deleted/unpublished. I am now working on my first real/serious project, basically the first one to have more than 50% of its content done so far, and my best looking one yet. I've promised myself that I will NOT give up on this one, else my game page will be left empty forever. -_-

Like every 2 week I gave up on a project...due to me not being able to program something or stuff.
Not like it matters much now.
The computer with all my Game Maker data on it crashed, and I had to start on a new project in which I'm not sure if I want to go through with.

Though now if I can't code something, I'll just remove it from the game....although that might backfire big time...
