The game is what I'm paying attention to, not some poorly written mess of a topic.

The difference is I can do one while I'm playing at work with no Internet access but not the other. But my argument still stands... Read the topic or press f1 and read the help file. What is the difference? I don't get it...

I call foul!!! Invalid argument as you shouldn't be playing games at work!!!

Show F1 on start then...it's a toggle option.
But what if we don't have time to type the controls?!

Then I don't have time to play your game.
Seriously, I don't care where the controls are explained -- in game, help file, in the post -- but I won't waste time poking around trying to figure them out.

I agree completely, but if you read back a bit, you'll see that people are complaing that the games don't have the controls/help page IN GAME... they don't want to read them in the post or the topic and suggest that if they are not mentioned in the game then not enough effort was put in. This is what I think is wrong. If I have spent my 72 hours creating the gameplay elements of my fantastic game rather than creating a nice help page then why should I be penalised if I use the topic (where you have to go to download the game!) to do the same thing? Read it in-game, or read it in the topic, it's all the same as you still have to read it!

I'm not playing any of the games next time if there's no ZIP, simple as that

Um... how much time is someone saving by explaining the controls in the topic than creating a default help file with the same information?...Copy paste? Controls should be listed *somewhere*... there's no reason why they can't be listed with the game in the default help file. It doesn't take long to type out a list of controls. A full blown tutorial... yeah, but just a list of controls? 5 minutes max... They *must* be posted somewhere. Why not in the game? The default help file requires absolutely no programming time...type it up and you're done.
Hmmm... seen like that then I suppose you (and TV) are correct. maybe I'll add a rule to make this obligatory? Another point to be discussed before the next jam!!!

Your loss! Remember that in the original Jam discussions, the idea was that not everyone would play ALL the games and that generally they would only play the games that interest the,.... Now, it seems that most people ARE actually playing all the games which is incredibly good news, but if the Jam grows this is going to be less and less likely. It also means that it will be less and less likely that all the games will be compiled into a zip... I certainly don't fancy having to download and compile 100+ games at 2am in the moring just to please a few people!!!

No, it's not my loss. By not having a ZIP, the only people losing out are the developers. Less plays, less feedback.
Ludum Dare gets 250+ entries and there are still people who play all the games. They always have a ZIP, and there's always someone ready to compile it (just like there was for the jam).
But anyway, if you've made your decision so be it

How about on the bus? Because those are pretty much the only two places I play most Game Maker games.I call foul!!! Invalid argument as you shouldn't be playing games at work!!!

Thanks to all who have participated and some special thanks to Zeddidragon and Shadowlink for their input with the chat, the clock and the vote counting. Congratulations again to theSnidr who I think really deserved the top spot, and I hope that everyone will repeat the next time round when we have our Autumn Jam at the end of october...

PS: If anyone has any problems with their prizes not being made/delivered as promised, then please feel free to PM me and let me know. I will do my best to make sure that everything is as promised!
