Blocchi
1.1.0

  • Category: Logic, Puzzle
  • File Size: 12.6 MB
  • GameMaker Version: GM8
  • Windows Vista Compatible: Yes
  • Screen Resolution Change: Optional
  • Download and other informations: via CM Online or Facebook

Gameplay:

The goal of the game is to fill the field with the shapes appearing on the right side of the window and reach the highest score. If the area is green you can place them, if it is red you have to look for another place. You get one point for each block you put in the field. If you complete the level before the time runs out, you earn some bonus points.
There are two modes in this game. In Marathon mode all the empty places are filled with yellow blocks on the next level. If the field is full of yellow blocks, the game is over. In Sprint mode you get back the field empty on the next level, but the time reduces. If you can't place any shapes, the game is over.

Controls:
You can place the shape by pressing left mouse button (LMB).
To fill the field, you may have to perform transformations.
You can rotate (A and S, or MWUp and MWDown) and mirror (W and S, or RMB+MWUp and RMB+MWDown) the shapes. You can get a new shape (Q, or RMB+LMB), but be careful, it will reduce your time.
You can use the on-screen buttons to perform these transformations too.
You can pause the game by using the keyboard (Escape), or the on-screen pause button. You can navigate in the menus by using the mouse (LMB) or the keyboard (Up, Down and Return).

This is pretty nice. However, some shapes are quite strange (i.e. block with a hole in the middle) and given amount of time is not quite enough to complete entire field.

Yeah, time is a difficult question, maybe more time should be given to complete. Anyway, next version is planned to come with a score table, some kind of menu system, and hopefully with more screen resolutions.

Thats a large improvement!
In two updates, from a 'generic puzzle game' to a game that already seems as a good candidate as mobile or browser game.
Background effects are great, and music is just amazing. Does the composer have a portfolio anywhere in the internet?

What would be nice, is shape being still displayed (but in different color) on areas where it cannot be placed.
Hotkeys as MouseWheel to rotate shape and RightMouseButton + MouseWheel to flip the shape would be nice as well.

Awesome Game! A few suggestions: Either - A little more time on the levels to allow for clicking time OR the mouse keybinds that were suggested before to allow for a faster paced game without clicking to the side, or maybe keypad hotkeys. :)

It was really fun! Music was great, maybe you can add a different game mode too like, randomly you get an exploding block that will open back up closed spaces or something.

I am looking forward to future development on this project Kudos!

Edit: Sorry I didn't see the key board controls up in your post, must have skimmed over - ;P will go play the game again with faster controls :D

Edit2: OK one problem I do see - make the times level dependent instead of number of squares dependant, from levels 20-100 i lost like... 2 blocks and i just repeated the same clicks over and over and over - and kept completing levels until I gave up at 100, At that point you can just go on forever with the same pattern of clicks and you keep the same time frame to do it, I say make time based on what level you are on, that way if you suck on level 1 you don't lose all your time :) - Still fun though :D

I'd have to say I agree with this statement as well.

Oooh... I like that idea. I hope he puts it in for Build 1004. :)

Thanks for the RMB and MW idea, I have already made it for the next version and it works perfectly, however I prefer keyboard and mouse combination.
I have changed non-available places' sprites too, so thanks for your advise.
My homepage is available in my GMC profile (I wrote the music).

In the next version on-screen buttons will give you back some time if you click on them (Build 1003 should have done this too, but it worked not, and I hadn't checked it).
Thank you for your great ideas, I will make a time challenge mode in this game. Exploding blocks may get a chance in a sequel.

I love this game, it's really awesome, the music is great, and the graphics are good, too.

The only thing it's missing is online highscores :P and lucky for you, there's a simple way to use them:

I think it would be a great addition to your already awesome game. Keep up the good work!

Well, thanks for the idea, but I've been already working on it when you posted. :) I've checked your link, but I think it will be better to have my own scoreboard on my homepage. Thanks, anyway.

(I hope I can finish it this week, then update is coming.)

It's been almost a month I promised an update, unfortunately I hardly had time to work on Blocchi, but now it is finished, so version 1.0.1 is available for download with online high score system.

The server where the Blocchi online high scores were stored has been shut down by the host, so online functions are not available for Blocchi (don't try to use them, or better restart the program if you did, because non-perfect Internet connection causes lots of bugs in the game).

Working hard on the solution (bug-fixing and webhost), so please be patient.
If you know any good and reliable webhost, please write it in a reply or message.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

Version 1.1.0 is out.

The menu system and the help has been improved a bit.
This multilingual version now contains English, German and Hungarian language files.
Time challenge mode has been renamed to Sprint, and both game mode has new music.
The online high score system was quite unstable (it was a huge failure) so it has been removed.

Make sure you check it out.
