Looks good, but I didn't see any power-ups, which might add to the game.

Also, you have the function keys to restart or return to the menu, which wont work on a Mac as the keys are already dedicated to other things like adjusting screen brightness.

Hope to see improvements soon,
BMS

Yes I played it, haha.

The game has good graphics, but not much depth. You need power-ups, ship upgrades, things like that.

and the other thing I said "the function keys to restart or return to the menu, which wont work on a Mac as the keys are already dedicated to other things like adjusting screen brightness" is quite important because people dont like to play game they have to completely quit and restart in order to just replay the level.

You can access the function keys in Game Maker by going fn+function key. Someone didn't download Rocket Party. :P

I died and didn't want to quit and relaunch the game- just like 99% of the people who would play your game I'm not going to know to press fn+the key. It does not "work" if it says to press the F4 key, but you actually have to press fn and F4.

Just change the keys to Z, X, C, and V or something like that.

What I did play I liked though! The color changing is a really nice effect.

besides the function keys (which iv been told do work on mac)

On a Windows based laptop, you often have volume buttons, screen brightness buttons, etc, shared with the function keys. To access them, you press Fn and then the function key. On a Mac, by default, this is reversed. The volume, brightness, etc work when you hit the button, and you must hit Fn + the function button to access the F1/F2/F3 etc functionality. This is configurable in the settings, but you should assume most people have the default setting, and therefore avoid using those buttons. Especially for something the player may want to do often.

I actually never use the function keys while under Mac OS, I wonder what they are used for... @ugriffin? :P

You never use the function keys? Meaning you never change the volume with the keyboard? Poof. :P

I'm guessing Fn+Function key is reserved for apps, 'specially Winblows apps. You were one of the lucky winners of Rocket Party, you should've used a Fn+Function combo for rocket! Right? RIGHT? :o

:P you know what I mean.

Function keys have been around since before Macs could run Windows, and IIRC, they used to go up to F15, higher than any Windows machine. Ever since I started using Macs about 5 years ago, I haven't found a good use for them (I used Macs as a child too, when you had to put in a 5 1/4 inch floppy disk and restart the machine to load from it :D).

I don't remember pressing F1, maybe I did. All I remember is using the arrow keys :S. Maybe I missed something?

I've been using Macs since OS 7. :P

Back then it was simply CMD+OPT optionally, the F keys are for operating system functionality like volume up down. However, since Intel Macs, there's been Windows retrolabeling, and they added the Fn key for compatibility with the Windows world. ;)

Which is why today's Mac noobs call the Option key the Alt key and stuff like that. Real old Apple keyboards had none of this. ;)

Evidence the Fn key didn't exist before Windows

:P

Ah, so historically the F keys were always used for volume, brightness, etc, and the Windows style functionality was introduced solely for the dual booters? Why did they go up to 15, what other functions did they need?

I'm guessing "noobs" call the option key alt because it says alt on it :P. I'd always assumed that it said that because of the newly found Windows compatibility though.

Man, I was barely born when OS 7 came out. You must be old. Not Fredfredrickson old, NakedPaulToast old!

Not really. I just used OS 7 on the ol' school computer in school. In fact, I think by the time I was using OS 7, OS 8 was out. Never used OS 8. Memories are blurry, too. When my family bought a Mac, it was in the early 2000's, with OS 9 in it and OS X capable. A nice lovely Bondi blue iMac G3.

We sold it in 2010. That baby served us for 10 years. It was a loyal beast. :)

I still messed around with OS 9 until we sold it, OS 9 was awesome. The freezes? Not so awesome. :P

But what I do remember was those Mac games for OS 7 that we'd play when we behaved well. Whoever says Macs aren't good for gaming lies.

well its true they aren't the best for gaming, it doesn't mean they dont have good games. nanosaur, now that was a great game to play on the school computers back when they used macs. but in todays day and age more games get built on windows than on macs, there's multiple reasons for this. my girlfriend has sims 3 on her mac... it takes about 10 minutes to load on the mac book pro but still, it works once it loads :P on my laptop sims 3 loads in about 15 seconds. i cant help but think this went a little off topic, but i dont mind Posted Image

Well when you put it like that, my girlfriend has a Windows laptop and I have a MacBook Pro. When I play Portal it loads in 15 seconds. When she plays Portal it loads in about 10 minutes. I think you'll find it's less about being a PC or Mac and more about the fact she has 2GB RAM, intergrated graphics and a core 2 duo, where as I have 4GB RAM, 512MB dedicated VRAM and an I7 processor.

That 1GB could make a big difference if it means you can fit all the data into your RAM, and she has to move some to a paging file.

Also, on my old laptop I had a 7200RPM hard drive, which I found made many games' initial loading times much shorter (standard in laptops is 5200RPM, they run them slower than desktop ones to save power).

Of course there's other factors involved, like how much spyware and malware is boggin down her system :D
