Whenever I copy and paste an image in the graphics editor (game maker 8), it makes the transparent parts black. Does anyone know how to get around this?

Are you sure you haven't set the transparency background as black? (View > Set Transparency Background). you can choose a block pattern or single colour. Check if this is why by changing the transparency background. tell me if it works

I'll explain myself a little better. The transparency bg is the default blocks and whenever i copy and paste a sprite, the surrounding transparent pixels fill with black. so i end up with the original sprite with transparent space around it and the same sprite, but with black in the transparency. the actually pixels have turned black.

This is because game maker doesn't store its transparency data as ARGB. It stores the alpha channel separately, and ARGB images pasted in have the alpha transparency replaced with black (although just testing now with GM8.1 it seems to give a white background instead).

You can get around this by saving the image as a PNG or similar transparency-capable format and then loading it into Game Maker. It isn't as convenient as copying and pasting, but your alpha channel will be preserved.

I've found this bug quite annoying when trying to copy and paste between Photoshop and Game Maker.

I really appreciate this workaround! Thank you very much. I will use this unless other permanent solutions work. This topic will remain open for discussion, though.

This same bug is happening to me, I just kinda stopped my project because of it since I butcher Copy and Paste. And it's not just the image editor but if you go to the sprite editor (where it has image 0, image 1, etc.)and press Copy then Paste, the entire box then has a solid color. Iv'e tried looking around the Menu Bar to see if you can turn this off already. Can't..
Here's a link to what this problem looks like.

Copy and Paste Bug

go to the control panel and in the display settings/properties and change
the color quality. After weeks of time wasted using ctrl-shift-E I got it fixed.

I'm using Windows XP and Game Maker 8 pro

tell me if that works.

if the rest of your sprite doesnt have black or white in it, you can use the erase color feature from the sprite editors menu.
i also noticed this when copying and pasting from photoshop (quite a pain)

I am very sorry for reviving this topic, but I have to add that, when you are making your games using your windows (windows os) properties in 16 bits, at the same time of the error of that annonying auto colour thing, seems that borders don't work properly, so, colisions don't work properly.
Also I made a video long time ago: http://www.youtube.c...h?v=0XDtW7HiyaQ .
Again, sorry for reviving the post, but it is extremely neccesary, there should be a warning for all the users when using 16 bits.
I had this trouble for more than 8 months, 8 months! omg.
