Clients you can use:

There are a million clients for IRC, you're bound to find one you'll like. Here are some alternatives:

Dedicated IRC clients:

• mIRC - Ten years ago it was so popular people referred to IRC as mIRC because they thought it was the same thing.
• XChat2 - It has anything I could ask for in an IRC client. Minimalistic, customizable and with all the essential features.
• Smuxi - A couple of #gmc-ers use this and they think it's pretty cool. I like it too.
• IceChat - "<tangibleLime> its ugly as a nun's ass but it works"

Multi-protocol chat-clients:

• Miranda - I use it personally, though not for IRC 'cause I couldn't figure out how.
• Pidgin - Jobo says it's perfect; who am I to argue?
• Trillian - It exists on a bunch of diferent operating systems. I don't like it because it's too blue and shiny.

Clients that are also browsers:

• ChatZilla - Add-on for Firefox. It feels less like installing something!
• Opera - An excellent browser that comes with a built-in IRC client.

Web-based clients:

• Mibbit - Seems to be the most popular client these days. Mainly because of how easy it is to use it to link channels.
• wsIrc - An alternative web-based IRC client if you hate mibbit just for the ads and also wish it was whiter.
• Communication Tube - For you kids with your cellular phones (join irc.twigathy.com:6667)

Zeddy can I suggest that you add a slight disclaimer and advice to the first post? Something like "this chat is NOT sanctioned by Yoyo games nor the GMC" and "please be respectful on the chat as no GMC member is better than anyone else"... or something like that (sounds like crap what I´ve written)! If not then the mods/admin here may not like the topic and I also think that a certain respect should be maintained on the chat the same as here on the forums... (obviously its more relaxed but I´d hate to see it turned into a troll-room...)

I could join once, checked something on the server, and it closed my connection. Then I couldn't join.

Why should it have it's own topic here?

Really these things are doomed to fail:
for a social chat, there are way too many other places already -also for programmers/game designers-.
For GM specific talk a forum is much better suited, I've yet to see any point where live-responses over internet are valuable.

But just FYI: chronic had (has?) an irc channel for a long time, but it wasn't ever really active. (Or well I can't remember), also 64D had an IRC channel.. Why would this be more succesfull?

The chat is for community members to get together as a community and commune in a comunal kinda way... and the community forum is for anything related to the community...

EDIT: You edited... I dont know if it will be successful nor does Zeddidragon, but it was most enteratining and a great boost to the recent Jam, so why not try and maintain it?
