first off i'd like to say, there is no 'real' answer. other then, if the games good its good.

all information provided is personal theory.

Unique games: unique games are something different, not something most games have, kind of how the tower defence genre kicked it off. it was new and people never played that before.
Theese types of game generally only are addicting for as long as the unique stays with it and doesnt get old. But there is no real way to tell if the person will stick with it for a while also.

Most MMORPG's players (base on average gamer) play about 2weeks-3 months unless they are a big hit like World of Warcraft, or Guild wars.
then you got those MMORPG fanatics. they also are about the same time. theese types of people just play the game to play it. but on personal theory, 10-20% of the players will stay for a good while.

*phone call, must end post here*

edit: the best way to make a good mmorpg is to have many classes. adds alot of replayability. and GOOD balance helps.

3. Replayability

4. People online (most important)

5. ???

6. Nice game (graphics + sounds + music + story + gameplay)

It needs a good way to interact with other players. Example: Chat, trading, guilds, etc.

Immersiveness is a must.
Personally a good MMO needs to have good level design, I can't explain it much but thats it.

It has to be massive, multiplayer, online and an RPG.

No it doesn't. The MM stands for "Massively Multiplayer" not "Massive, Multiplayer". As long as you have loads of players, it can be as small as you want :P

Honestly, it doesn't have to be over complex, but you need to give players incentive to play, for example, Stick Online had a nice little community, and kept 100+ players coming back to it, until it was hacked, and taken down, since then, the game has come back out, and can be played if you pay for a copy, which shows stick online really had something people like, because LOTS of people have since paid for it....

Wish I could be of more help, if I think of anything else useful, I will come back and post it :D

i think that you shoul make a interactive world...
let me explain: let think at a person who sells potions and one of them was bad....
so we have :health potion, mana potion and a drick(secret drick)"beer".
and if the player chose (drinck) then he he is going to waste money and health(because the alcol).
this is just an example of how to make an interactive world in witch every action has a reaction(i know i takes long but i'm doing the same type of game)-i just need a script to put my ga,e online to also make it multiplayer.if some can help me i hope enjoy the others... ;P
