You need to start Game Maker by itself as opposed to just opening a .gm81 file.

Either this update is gigantic or the servers are slow as f-/overloaded.

Edit: Also thanks a billion for the updater window always being on top. I love useless windows being in the way of my browsing and such.

Ah, apparently it doesn't work if you open it from a taskbar icon.

Quick question..
I'm having the problem of it asking for the verification and reverting to lite on my laptop, but if I re-enter the verification number, will it take up one of my upgrades?

I've tried it about 5 times, after upgrading GM8 twice, so I would assume no. I sure as hell hope not.

Little pieces of your soul are taken away each time. :(

Some things to keep in mind before committing to an autoupdate.

There is no mechanism to rollback, haven't investigated in Windows restore points will work.

Be aware of your local time zone compared to YYGs/Scottlands end-of-business day. If something goes wrong and it's past their business day end, you likely won't have a fix til at least the next business day.

If your version of 8.1 is working well for you, and you're not terribly impacted by existing bugs, consider not updating right away. Wait to see how successful it went for others.

Is it Friday, can you live without Game Maker all weekend should something goes wrong?

Of course, if you are heavily impacted by existing bugs, such that GM is not very usable, go ahead.

These considerations will be come less important as more bugs are fixed and auto-updating and package becomes more stable.

GameMaker reverted to lite when it restarted after the update. When starting GameMaker I get this:

Downloading now... pretty slow download. The servers are probably pretty loaded, though.

EDIT: finished! It's working fine by the looks of it.

Mike Dailly said from twitter a few hours ago that he found the problem and there will be an update first thing tomorrow morning.

EDIT: Which is weird, in the bug tracker it says it's assigned to Russell.

Regarding the issue about Norton anti-virus from this closed topic:

I heard back from the Norton Admins regarding the false-positive report I filed about GM 8.1. They said:

In light of further investigation and analysis Symantec is happy to remove this detection from within its
products.

Of course, it's not clear exactly what this means, and whether it applies to the temp files I reported, but at least they're listening.

Strange, it says in the release notes that:
0000737: Right clicking in the script/code editor does not move the text cursor to the mouse's position
is fixed, but it doesn't seem to be for me... Is it working for anyone else?

The issue was addressed, not "fixed".

As I said in the bug.... "This is the correct behaviour. Bringing up menus should not move the cursor."

Sorry...

Why would you want the cursor to move anyway? If it did that, then you would have no way to do editing commands through the dropdown menu (imagine highlighting some text, then wanting to copy to clipboard by right-clicking...but oh no, it moved the cursor and deselected the text).

Some DLL's like Netread are still not working, so i assume the issue where not the new arguments.. :/

Edit: For thoose of you interested, HttpDll2 works like a charm in 8.1, and is faster than Netread: Link

Cheers!

Not really... You see, these are bitmaps. They're made of pixels. Nothing will ever be perfectly scaled when zoomed because of this, unless it is scaled 2x, 4x, or 8x.

About the updater: I tried to update, while working on a document..

Now that the updater is finished it asks: "game has been changed. save changes?" - however this modal windows keeps popping up, preventing me from actually saving or not saving!
