Oh and I'm surprised there aren't any germans or french? Where are they???

Germany has its own Game Maker forum, they're probably all hanging out there...

Germany and France, I'd imagine.

I'm surprised how spread out the UK entries are. I almost expected the Internet to relocate them all to London.

I live in Eden Prairie, Minnesota! It's the land of 10,000 lakes, mega snow, and more yuppies than the other 49 states combined! Haha I'm kidding fellow Minnesotans, or am I O.o?

That's because we placed them on the map ourselves, the accuracy of a point is up to us, not where the internet exchange is.

This is a fun map. I wasn't surprised to see the clusters in US and UK. But it was cool to see so many GMC'ers from Scandinavia. Who knew?

I'm surprised with so few from Australia. I thought we had more Aussies here. Maybe I just thought that because they make more noise. :P

Hehe. I've read lots of stuff about the "Scandinavian Video Game Wonder". We have 6 months of total outdoor darkness and cold every year, bundled with good trade relations with Japan since the 1600s. I think that combination explains it.

The only interest Japan has in Scandinavia, is getting ideas from your Norse mythology they can use in video games. Like Final Fantasy, Age of Empires, etc.

What do you get in return? Oh yeah... tourists.

Age of Empires

since when is microsoft japanese?

I was referring to Age of Empires: Mythologies for the Nintendo DS.

Course, that was developed by Ensemble Studio... before Microsoft absorbed it.

Sushi is a big hit in Sweden. And japanese pop culture has been part of our pop culture since Dragon Ball got translated to english for the first time.

Sushi is a big hit in Sweden.

It makes sense you'd eat raw fish. It's difficult to start cooking fires in such a cold wasteland.

japanese pop culture

... shudders ...

Regarding the map, maybe we should give prizes (ok, just pats on the back) to the most northern, most southern, and most remote GMC members.

Actually, Jake Habgood was in town not long ago. He did a speech called "Game Maker made easy" about GM's capabilities. I'm suprised some of the people there were there, one was 13 and knew Objective-C and another was talking about the Spectrum or something

Why? This topic is great fun, but it's pretty pointless. I'm surprised it's still here, since it breaks Community Forum rules against topics about "where are you from" and "how old are you".

A prize for actually having an Internet connection and being capable of downloading Game Maker?

EDIT: By "remote", I mean geographically.

But how do you define 'remote'? Even the U.S. has remote, or exclusive, areas. And Australia is pretty remote to me.

People might click their location from a really low zoom level and might accidently click ocean.

I only see one who's truly in the ocean: Losties (likely a joke). The other one is Shiritt, who's on the island of Corvo. Zoom in to see.

I meant greatest distance from another GMC member. Right now, that title goes to DavidL. Second place goes to Shiritt.

Well I'm out of that one; spent the whole of today and yesterday with about 1.2kb/sec download speeds. It estimated about eleven hours to download the Doctor Who theme tune (not counting the times it freezes or cuts out altogether). Two percent so far... gonna leave it on overnight and see what happens.

How do you load websites?
The same happened to me when i was using a 3G internet modem.. they suck badly.. but i was able to pull it to 15-30 kb/s at times, so it was bearable.

I suppose the moderators love harmless topics like this. Each person just comments about himself. No controversy. No strong opinions. No passionate debate.

Real interesting stuff....

teasing... Actually, the map is fun. I like the feature under "view/list" that opens a clickable list. Easier to see who's there. And it's cool that some members included pictures, comments, and their website links.
