If I download GM 8.0 now, and buy a license for the Pro edition, then will I get a free upgrade to 8.1 when it comes? Or will I have to pay again?

It looks like GM 8.1 will have lots of new features. I'd be OK with YoYo charging for it. Or maybe just free to people who bought GM 8 in the past, say, 6 months.

Of course, if YoYo has already announced that GM 8.1 will be free to all registered GM 8 owners, then that's that.

Back when GM 8.0 came out yoyogames announced that you would get all version of 8.x with this license.

Do you have a link to where this announcement is, so that I can see some solid proof, and know you aren't just giving me BS?

Look into the glog, maybe you have to use WBM as the early parts seems to be cut of from the glog.

I know it's somewhere there (sandy replied that as "response" to all those people complaining about having to pay for GM 8.0 again).

If you don't believe me, fine - however I'm not willing to search all around for where sandy said this, I'll "trust" yoyogames on this and will only search if needed.

Searching isn't that hard. It took me less than 30 seconds with Google [site:glog.yoyogames.com Game Maker 8.0 8.1 free upgrade sandy], 2nd result to find: http://glog.yoyogames.com/?p=2507 (Last paragraph, last sentence).

Why go to websites?! Just open GM and look in the manual...

Upgrading the Lite Edition to the Pro Edition costs only 20 Euro or US $25 (subject to change). This is a one-time fee that will at least be valid for all versions 8.x of Game Maker.

Only major updates will possibly require you to rebuy it.

To elaborate: a "major update" means that YYG change the "8" in "GM8" to another digit. Even if GM8.1 has a 3D room editor that allows you to zoom, a built-in notepad, the ability to replace the D&D window with a codebox, and custom menu skins, it'd still be 8.1 unless stated otherwise.

I bet the next major update includes a "9".

In other words, it's roughly the equivalent of 25. I'd imagine that's how they work it. Seems an appropriate price for the product.

Yeah it's only a £5 increase, nothing much.

I wish YoYo would announce the price in £'s as well seeing as they are based in the UK and all Posted Image

Not quite:

If you have a valid "Purchase Reference" for GM8, then you'll get the upgrade for free. This obviously includes GM7 users who got the free upgrade to GM8.

So go hunt in your emails and find this reference, or get it from Softwrap because you'll need it to upgrade for free!

http://www.softwrap.com/page.aspx?section_id=9

That means my GM7 purchase and free upgrade gets me GM8.1 for free too. That, and the price upgrade only happens from June onwards, so you have plenty of time to get 8.1 for $25 still.

Actually, it will cost $39.99 after June 1st, but $25 before that. And also, if you got the free upgrade from 7 to 8, you haven't purchased GM8 - but you're still entitled to the free upgrade to 8.1.

This may seem like a stupid question, but what do you mean by "purchase reference number"? Do you mean the license key? Or something else?

Yup. I've got a standard swedish keyboard. Not the obscure things that guy uses. ;)

FYI: my keyboard has an key, and key and an key. I hereby challenge thee to write an without resorting to the alt-numpad. It's so damn useful to have this key. And writing an without having to press the ^ ~ key... plain awesome.

And while on the subject... it's a QWERTY keyboard. <>| comes from the key next to Z. the dot key is used for .: and the comma key for ,; - these keys are placed right of the M (which can also write the my symbol , and the E is used for as well)
