I often find that I am in need of a diagram to explain my problems and such, and so are many others. Instead of painstakingly opening paint, saving as a png, going to image shack, uploading, signing in, and copy-pasting the link into a forum post, why not just have an online 'paint' application, so that users can easily make diagrams to portray their troubles, mock-up some sprites, or make a unique smiley? I feel it would benefit many.

Oh, I don't know. Any screenshots I ever posted were in-game ones, maybe which had been edited. I VERY rarely see straight MS paint style diagrams. I use to hang about the Q&A topics a lot.

How many have you seen? As one who often needs it, how many have you made, in all honestly? :P

Instead of painstakingly opening paint,

I love your creative writing. Go to paint, Rmb+click on it's icon, click on properties, and set it's shortcut to P. Now you can open it in a flash with Ctrl + Alt+ P
Takes the P out of Painstaking-ness. :)

(I am using xp, but it's been like this since 98, I think, I doubt Vista/7 are different)

saving as a png,

I do wish there was a way of making .png the default selection. Is there a paint .ini setting or something somewhere, which I can mess around with? Anyone know?!?

going to image shack, uploading, signing in, and copy-pasting the link into a forum post

All of which you'd have to do in with your web paint app solution, correct?

So you should really have written.

Instead of opening paint, and saving as .png, how about a web app?

This is not an online whiteboard program. Didn't you read my post?

Yes, and that's what it sounded like. A place to make quick diagrams, illustrations, artwork... and then share it on the GMC.

But let's not get concerned about semantics. We can call it whatever you want. It's the function that's important. And there are already sites that provide those functions.

Fair enough. I just believe that an official service for this would be nice.

I thought of another use. ^_^ In the Game Ideas and Design forum, a common question is the HUD design. This could be used for that.

EDIT:

I've seen many, however only made about 4. :\

No. It'd be anonymous, as it is uploading to a free, account-less imagehosting service.

So you should really have written.

I guess the only benefit I can see is the possibility to collaborate in real time. Otherwise, I'm more likely to just use my own favorite image processor / drawing program. It has the features I use, and I'm already familiar with it.

Anyway, I have a feeling there would be a lot of penis drawings.

I'd draw a picture of my own. Unfortunately, the picture would exceed the forum size limits. ;)

I kind of like the idea, but I'm not sure the problem that it's solving is worth the effort of making it. After all, it isn't really that hard to make a drawing in Paint, upload it, and post it.

Everyone has a DAD. But not everyone is dyslexic like I am.

I feel like you should have a catch-phrase...

It does not do that! >:o

Exactly, except you draw it and upload it in one fell swoop.

But is that really an advantage? When I create something, I save the original on my HD in the program's native format. That way, I can edit it later and export a newer version. Would your online system provide that ability?

Compelling evidence why we don't want a drawing program integrated into the GMC.

haha, NPT is everywhere!

If you cant integrate it onto the forums (wich is the most likely) we can always make a 'game' on YYG that exports a PNG out of the diagram, then upload the resulting image to the forums as a normal image.. it should be easy to make it.

If you could copy&paste images into said web app, that would actually be pretty rad. Something in the back of my head tells me that's just like if you uploaded it, but I still think it'd be cool.

I use to meet up with a dev friend on a xat box with a whiteboard(where we plotted dastardly plans, and generally wasted time chilling), and being able to paste a screenshot where we could circle, and point stuff out to each other simultaneously would have been sweet.

I would of course allow basic features, likely everything in Paint and maybe some more things. I have no list of features right now, just seeing if people are in favor or against.

Here's the gist:

-Image drawing program including copy/paste, file upload, basic shape editing
-Loads automatically to imgur/imageshack when you are finished. May ask for username-password/save-to-hard-drive if you want to save the image.
-Copies direct link, with img tags to clipboard.

Now that I think of it, it's not much worse than paint. But I still think it would be neat to have a basic drawing program where you can draw quick pixel art mockups, etc.

EDIT: Also, a lot of people seem to think that this will be some sort of online thing...? No, there should be no real-time collaboration. There are dozens of services for that and it's not integral to a forum. This is a forum, not a chat room.

Hmm... it'd take about half an hour to make, and would be fully online once YYG release HTML5 conversion.
Are you going to make it then?
