More than likely the next major release (GM9) will be cross platform for both mac and windows and the two lines will be merged thereafter.

The only reason I thought about purchasing a license for it was because so I could expand my reach of potential fans for the new game I am planning to release in a couple of months.
@Player_2, oh so its just like Game Maker 7... same script functionality and stuff (without regedit, file management, and '.dlls' probably)? Game Maker 9 sounds awesome btw, I hope we see it by 2011 but something that powerful should not be rushed.

Yes it is essentially GM7. I'm pretty sure it supports the mac equivalent of dlls.
I can guarantee we will not be seeing GM9 this year. I predict mid-way to the end of next year is a likely release date range. In the meantime we will have GM8.1 to (partially) satisfy our hunger for updates.

I cannot seem to recall where I saw the topic... but are they degrading Game Maker 8.1 by taking out the 'registry functionality'? I do not know if I am going to purchase the mac version or not... I kinda wanted to have more potential fans for my new game releasing very soon... but in reality are there any Mac gamers?
Ahem... (replying to myself)
Mr. extrickster I would like to pronounce that I play with the Garry's Mod on Mac.
GM4Mac looks horrible too. I dislike Windows, but with that GUI, I'm staying away from GM4Mac until they make it look nicer.
Yeah it does look horrible, seems like someone just threw it all together.

The problem is, there aren't enough Mac games. If you make a good Mac game, I'll play it.I cannot seem to recall where I saw the topic... but are they degrading Game Maker 8.1 by taking out the 'registry functionality'? Yeah I realize that,
I am stuck on a rut... I don't know if I am going to purchase it or not...

I do not know... I have not seen any Mac games on YoYo Games either... that was one of the reasons why I came and asked this question...
This has got me wondering now! I want to know if the yoyo website even supports mac games!!!

I looked at the Game Maker's Bug Tracker for Mac, there is like 248 bugs or something... I would rather wait until Game Maker 9 comes out now...
I don't know for sure if GM9 will be cross compatible. But to me it seems very very likely as it will have the new C++ runner which is compatible with multiple platforms.

I'd suggest bootcamp and then GM 8 on the Windows partition. But download GM4Mac lite and try it.
I run bootcamp on my Macbook and iMac. Both have GM8 Pro and GM4Mac Pro. I don't do any development on GM4Mac, but convert the Windows GMK to GM6 using LGM, then load it into GM4Mac. It's tedious.

GM6, not GMK?If you are a regular user of GM 8, then you will be disappointed in GM4Mac.

LGM saves in GM6 format. No choice in the matter.GM6, not GMK?
At first load with GM4Mac or GM7 then the GM6 with be saved in a GM7 formatted GMK.
