This is completely off topic, but why does everyone randomly mention two random food items as a phrase?I have some cheese and crackers for them.

I'm sorry kiddo, sometimes I get carried away by my age and not realizing everyone in the world doesn't know of the phrases given. The full phrase is "would you like some crackers and cheese with that whine?"...since I was stating that those who are complaining the need for registry functions are just whiny little brats, I have some "crackers and cheese" for them.
There you go, the whole picture.

Still isn't registry used to get usefull information about the setup of ones computer?
IE: path to the my documents folder, screen size, installed directories (for example when one writes a map editor which needs to know it's base program location), default extensions. Basically anything that gives the final professional touch for programs.
Really the big thing about removing such a feature is that your essentially saying to people who use this: "you're out of luck, gamemaker isn't meant for that and if you want to do it, you shouldn't be with us". - And hence degrading gamemaker once again.
Also that YOU don't like it, can't be a reason for OTHERS not to like & use it: if you don't like it you should disable registry access for those programs on a per computer basis. Not on a per gamemaker basis.

Ouch, that's a bit harsh Sabriath.
There is a distinct difference between INI files and registry use. I'm sure you know that, so comparing them isn't logical.
On the argument that children could go in there and mess up the registry, it would require a kid to know exactly what they are doing if they were to mess up their PC. There isn't some "registry_kill_pc()" function -- it requires a decent understanding of the registry to actually destroy a PC using GM's registry functions.
Anyone that does that knows exactly what they are doing.

okay... the discussion is degenerating a little here. I've read enough to think it should go from the main runner, but perhaps give it as a platform specific extension or something... we'll have a think about it a little more... thanks peeps.
