Latest news(28-3-2011): Final version released! Topic

BlueMoonProductions
Creative Game Challenge 2010-2011

Welcome to the Work-In-Progress topic of City of the Duce, often shortened to CotD(the 'Duce' is a person in the storyline). CotD is a 3DTPSRPG, and I'm making it for the CGC of this year. Theoretically is CotD my very first 3D game.

Screenshots
Let's start with these.

Some notes:
This game is WIP. Please don't expect to much.
This game is 3D. My computer is pretty fast, and the game runs 60/60 all the time. I hope CotD will also run smooth on your PC's. I've built a 'Low Graphics'-mode in, but it isn't finished yet.
Because of that, I d'like to hear your FPS, the graphics mode you used(standard: 'High'), and how 'good' your computer is. Thanks in advance :)

Final notes
I wish everyone a lot of fun playing this game. It is still small, however, now the engine is finished, adding areas will go very fast.

It runs fine for me also, but I don't know the FPS. It's a good game so far. The storyline sounds interesting.

It runs fine for me also, but I don't know the FPS. It's a good game so far.

To find out the FPS:
-Open a HUD window, using the 1-5 keys.
-Press 'I'
-Click in the new window on 'Perform'
-See the FPS :)

The storyline sounds interesting.

Thank you :)

Your welcome. For me the FPS stays at 60, except when changing rooms where it drops to around 40 then goes back to 60.

My computer:

CPU: Q6600 - 2.4GHz
GPU: NVidia 8800 GTS (G92) 512MB
MEM: 4 GB DDR2 800MHz

Fps was 60/60 all the way, except when loading rooms...

The game looks quite good so far.. all you need is some content now.

Didn't like couple things though:

- Removing items from inventory made them disappear, I thought they would be dropped out to the ground... ended up running around places without decent clothing
- The arrow shooting was kinda hard.. you couldn't see the arrows as they flew far away. This happens because the resolution is so "low" and the arrows are small.

I already had something like that in mind. Next version :) EDIT: Hm, not next version xd

Well, arrows are pretty visible I think.. What do you suggest?

Also, @everyone: Rate if you like the game: http://www.yoyogames.com/games/161125

For the arrows, maybe you could have a cross hair. I know it isn't a gun, but that would make aiming easier.

Hm.. It's a fantasy RPG, remember? I don't think crosshairs would actually fit..

54 FPS, nice =D

I did. I posted the game on communities where I am active(I'm not going to 'spam' the game everywhere).

I posted it on gm3dforums.com, 3 replies atm, one by me. But it isn't an active community.
I posted it on YoYo Games, where the game has been rated 13 times, all 5 stars, so I'm very happy with that :)
I posted it on the Dutch Game Maker community(game-maker.nl): 58 replies(which I'm very happy with :P).

So, the only 'low response' post is this one(except the GM3D one, but I didn't expect much response there). I think I just have to wait..

The game won't be online btw. I'm not good at online programming <_<

I'm downloading now, but by the looks of it...it seems as though your modeling it towards the runescape theme, true? (that's a good thing, to me)

One thing, i think you should add customization to the character... Eyes, Mouth, Hair, ect.
and most certainly add the option to free roam, like kill monsters and level up...to unlock new armor or something, that'd be cool

Hm, no, I try to make my own style and theme..

One thing, i think you should add customization to the character... Eyes, Mouth, Hair, ect.

You can change clothes.. That's all, I don't want to be like Runescape to much.

I'm currently working on a minigame where you can battle waves of monsters, and win armour. Wait until the next version :)

Looks good!

I had an idea, maybe your energy and mana could slowly rebuild over time, because I jumped too much and then I didn't have any energy left.

Also, maybe when you wear clothes and use weapons, maybe it could make the box around it a different color and say "take off" or "unequip" the item instead of making it disappear.

EDIT:
Or maybe have the orb of life restore you health and stuff.

Also, even though I had 0 energy, I still hit the dummies like normal. I think it did it correctly when I had more than zero.

Ty :)

Good idea: added.

Hm. I'll think about it.

EDIT:

That is a nice idea.. I will consider it, thank you :)

Energy gives you only a small combat bonus. I'll raise it.

Finally!

The update is here!

It took some time because I was busy with other things, but now it's here. The update features:

- A new minigame where you can battle 5 different enemies, wave-based, and earn tokens!
- Use these tokens in the shop to buy weapons, armor or potions.
- North Ealdor
- Spiders lair. UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
- Mouse centers now in the center of the window, instead of the screen.
- A LOT of bugfixes, a LOT of grammar fixes, a LOT of things I fogot.
