It doesn't matter, you can reset the puzzle by going back to the first platform again.

The direction you go trough a gate doesn't matter. You can't input using the same gate twice; the system I use is basically using "WRONG!!" markers in all the wrong gates and a "CORRECT!" marker on the first platform.

Good to know. I'll have a go at figuring it out today.

Edit:
Well that was quick. Once I stopped slavically follow the bottom path that deceptively seems like the right one the solution practically leaped in my face and planted deadly alien eggs in my stomach.
Spoiler

Edit 2: Wait that didn't work. I input the correct code through two different routes and neither worked. *looks at solution*

Oh. Your solution doesn't even mention the correct route, only the trick. Guess I'll try some more! For the record, here are the routes I have tried:

Edit 3: I am standing outside the house of AWESOME. Guess I'll play something else while you apply some W40 to that rusted door. The solution was, of course, so simple that I completely overlooked it due to me overthinking everything.

I've just updated my Super Mario Bros. remake, by the way, in case you get so desperate for gameplay at work you consider playing it.

I still have a giant backlog of arcade Shmups to go on. Plus, I haven't beat Kirbyvania yet! Or the original Super Mario Bros! I'll pencil it in for "sometime later".

I gave another thought about the infinite ammo thing. Spoilered to keep post short:

Just DL'd and will be playing soon. The graphics look like recolored Cave Story tiles - is that where you got them/inspiration?

You know, before I scrolled down I thought that you were telling me that I unintentionally gave you a not-so-subtle clue with that post due to the position of the quote. I facepalmed and said "oops!", scrolled down, and realized.

A middle ground that would probably work is to have two weapon categories: Battery and Magazine.

That one sounds pretty interesting, and a bit easier to work in than the others.

For now (I'll update the game within an hour), I've made it possible to buy Fairy Pistol ammo (aka water bottles) in the shops to balance it a bit. Very cheap solution, but should make it possible to get as much as you want until I get a better system working.

Inspiration; all tiles are 100% custom, which you will see if you compare them side by side. For saying they looked like recolors, expect to be punished somehow pretty soon.

-Um, yeah, you actually buy bottles of plain bottled water to pour into it when reloading... Ehm. -_'*

In the post-apocolyptic future, clean water is a treasured and rare resource.

-Thunderwasp is a much cooler name than Golden Bee.

-Weird bug: When shooting at a gold block with the Hellbreath, the gold block breaks but the shot doesn't appear. This means that if I try to shoot a rat standing on a gold block I'll only break the block under him without hitting the rat itself. I'm not even sure That Next One Level is even possible without cheesing Hellbreath, so I guess I'll go see what's up with that missile launcher.

-Text on the sign outside the COLUMBUS CITY WEAPON RESEARCH - MISSILE DE is shifted to the right for some reason so that's all I can read.

-How come the shopkeeper laughs when I buy water and Cryo Sphere ammo but not when I buy keygun shells or ATG ammo? It makes buying the former two an annoying and tedious process.

-Golden Bee really isn't as ridiculously powerful as advertised. For example, it uses several shots to kill a chomper, whereas this is an instant process with most other weapon. The homing properties should prove useful, though. For the record, I probably don't want it to be stronger.

I'd say the most powerful weapon in the game is a tie between Oil Nuke, Chain Core and Hellbreath. Chain Core is essentially a rapid-fire, infinite-ammo, long-range shotgun, Oil Nuke will instantly kill anything and its children and anyone who happened to be watching while Hellbreath is a concentrated Oil Nuke that can go through walls.

All the weapons have moments where they really shine (Fairy Charm, for example, is a godsend in the subway where there is no cover and a lot of things that are hard to get with the Oil Nuke, and ATG is absolutely indispensable against bubbles. Keygun is awesome for mobility, roflstomping low-level areas and is quite versatile for survival purposes. The Motion Gun is kind of specialized due to its low power but when it's useful it's REALLY useful). Chain Core, Hellbreath and Oil Nuke are best overall, though.

I don't have much ammo for Golden Bee right now, but I'll try it out somewhere I think it'll come in handy.

-Tried out Golden Bee in That Next Level. It served its purpose okay but the blue rats take several hits from a full volley. The only reason it's useful is because the Hellbreath is out of commission due to that gold block bug, and even then it feels vastly underpowered due to how rare the ammo for it is. I guess it's useful considering there wasn't a dungeon to crawl through (except for the subway) to get to it, but you didn't need that with the Oil Gun either and that one's immensely powerful.

Still don't think you should make it more powerful, but I will look forward to the infinite ammo patch. Lastly, I love watching these things go. I'm sincerely thankful for this gun that shoots bees that explode.

Who said it was clean? :)

I've noted down all the other glitches (will fix!). Main reason the Hellbreath disappears is that the object, children of parent_bullet, is destroyed on goldblock contact. Will fix that with a special case.

How about renaming the gun Thunderbee?

Will remove the ammo-buy laughing. And I'll see if I can make Bee-missile ammo less rare.

Yes.

Edit:
Reached the new end of That One Level. Liberal use of Oil Nuke and falling straight through the gold blocks, keygun blazing got me through it. The jumping section in the end was so easy I didn't come close to dying once.

The world is flat, eh? Guess those crazies were right after all.

I'm impressed. In the time it took me to download this game, and play through it for the first time (casually. I didn't rush the game) You updated no less than THREE TIMES.

How can I keep up with that? Lol.

Anyway, I'm pretty far in the game. Man, I can't remember all the gun names. I got the upgraded handgun, keygun, oilgun, ATG, and Cryogun. The version I'm using is 1.2.6, so I know the Hornet gun upgrade isn't in this version yet, but the Fairy gun thing is.

Let's see... I can't seem to find this "Secret Street" area. I've combed the subway over and over and I can't find anything. I assume that if I have to take a hover-mech-thing that I've gone too far. I went to the top of the one building at the end of the waterway, right before the subway, and found the CD that heals and saves you, but nothing special was up there other than lores/jars.

On a similar note, going back all the way through the waterway, back to the area where you fell from the watertower(I think) I know there's the one hidden area in there, following the block maze thing. I've gotten that. But looking down there's another area submerged in acid, and I can't figure out how to get down there. Is it accessable? Hints?

On another similar note. In that secret area, talking to the protagonist person, I'm crying that I didn't write down the info she said. Why she only gotta say it once? T.T

Also, going through the fire/lava area. There was that one area with the signs telling you that it was natural caves, and that it was dangerous and tricky footing and stuff. And the signs yell at you to turn back. Going to the end all I find is a rusted door. Really? (And I don't mean the wing of the lava areas that leads to the Hellbreath upgrade)

Umm... as for what I THINK is the fairy gun upgrade. I found one spot where you can go above the ceiling in the subway, in the area where you need to activate the rails, by damage-jumping off those turtle shells. I got cold feet and jumped down though. Is that it? Or was that unintended?

...

otherwise an awesome game.

Another problem. I switched to 1.2.9 and picked up the motiongun and the upgraded desert hornet. But now I'm stuck in the desert hornet upgrade area. I was able to slip a hovercopter into there, but now I can't get out. Mario won't fit, and neither will the hovercopter! If I could break the cracked blocks I could escape that way, but without people in dive suits I see no way to break them.

Inside the facility, I found the secret area in there, and the secret door in that secret area. Too bad it's rusted >.> stupid rusted doors.

And one more thing. What happened to the two who fell in the subway? I tried going back there but there was no way to go down.

The one part of the game I haven't explored yet is the smokey road that I assume the end of the game is. I wanted to finish exploring before I do that.

EDIT:Woa... did the forums combine my two posts?

You could not possibly be further away from the Fairy Gun upgrade.

You can fit Mario through, just fiddle a bit. Flap your wings and shoot the keygun downwards and you'll pop right in after a few times.

There's still some game left behind it and stuff to find. I suggest you go take a look.

Ah thanks for that. All I know about the Fairy Gun is that it's somewhere underground. And I assume it's not in any of the areas that already have a gun upgrade. (Fungi Forest, Desert, Lava area, the Smokey tunnel area), now what's left? Subway, the garden building. I can't think of much else.

EDIT:Ok, Ive reinvestigated the garden building and other than the obvious backtracking area (with the fireblocks) that I've already cleaned out, I found one suspicious area with weedblocks in the walls, as if it's hinting at a secret passage. I can break the blocks with Hellbreath, but I cant find any entrance to any secret areas. I've even combed the whole area with the SATG gun which is very handy for showing false walls.

Also, getting out of that area by the desert hornet upgrade area was a real pain. It should not be that annoying, or require the boardgun.

EDIT AGAIN:Ok, found the secret in the grass dungeon. Not what I had hoped. I only just looked at your protagonist hints now that I found Baron.

MOAR EDITING:Decided to tackle That One Level. Took me a long while to get through the shape puzzle. Only thanks to Yal's hints did I manage to figure it out. There's no way I would have gotten it on my own. Well, it IS supposed to be this uber hard level, so it's fine. I did find it funny I could run under all those stoplights, and as long as they were offscreen, they didnt shoot, so I ignored them. When I reached the super rats, I found the best weapon for the job in a most unexpected place. The Oilnuke. It could bounce around corners, kill large numbers of the rats at once, and was more effective than spamming the Motiongun until enough lucky hits hit the enemy I wanted dead. Anyway, I got to the rusty door, and I'll await your update to that. I did make a backup save, so I can continue the rest of my journey.

Nope.

This is probably my most used weapon along with the Hellbreath, actually. It's great for crowds, powerful things and especially enemies that spawn other enemies. That's most situations right there.

Nope.

I could have sworn I read in one of the patch notes that's where it was. "Somewhere Underground" Oh well, then I think I know where it is.

Yes, but up until recently I was using the version where the Oilnuke used 10 ammo. So I kept it in reserve more. I prefer the SATG and Hellbreath. I don't LIKE spamming thing like Oilnuke or Motiongun, I do it when I have to because of difficulty.

"Rusted Doors" are the standard message when I've placed a doorway but not given it any coordinates. I'll work the new areas in sooner or later as I get time for them. I've recently gotten a little busy with a fish game though (I made a drawing of a fish holding a very big machine gun (twice its own size) and got so inspired by it I've nearly forgotten all my other projects except RW2)... but I'll get back to Final Columbus pretty soon; depending on whether I participate in the JAM or not.

The top prio thing on my list is changing the cutscene where Fox and Al falls, by the way, it's too out-of-the-blue. With just two weeks left of the competition I originally made Final Columbus for, I decided that someone more had to die to give you a good reason to kill Smith. That was before I began working the insanity theme into the game. I will change what happens there so that there's other people involved and nobody dies, but Smith reveals a sentient crystal and tells the others they're "foolish mortals".

Glad you notified me about the Canal, by the way. I accidentaly removed the passage you could get out trough if you didn't have the copter when I reworked it to get more copter space around it. But it should be possible to go back up the way you came with a copter (going trough the small hole at the side) even if you don't have the girls with you.

- Smiley Gears now die in a more satisfying way to reward you for
grinding down 20 000 HPs without getting hit even once.

Did you lower their health? They seemed to take 40 000 in the previous version.

Edit: Oh right hard mode.
