King of the Streets started off as a bit of fun during downtime at work with some work mates and it grew from there. Its a 2D fighting game based off ourselves and others and obviously inspired by Mortal Kombat. Most of the Graphics are done by me with the exception of some special effects.

dude, looks pretty pro, can't wait to play. you seem to have gone into quite some depth with this, cancelling moves, multilevel and everything. is this just for fun or is there more ambition behind it?

Thanks, well yea it really just started off as abit of fun and we were just happy to see us in a game haha and thats where the spark came from and it grew soon enough we had given ourselves "Characters" and stories.

I think it does deliver quality, and should be played lol

this is possibly the best fighting game made in GM. For once there is a story mode!

If you want I can possibly help you get the vs mode to have online play.

Also one more thing, the AI in this game is amazing. I finallly lost in a gm fighting game!

Amazing. Keep up the good work. Also what did you create these sprites in?

this is possibly the best fighting game made in GM. For once there is a story mode!

haha yea though the stories came after the character were made.. they are all really cheesy, especially B's one which is just a edited take on Conan the barbarian lol

If you want I can possibly help you get the vs mode to have online play.

Yea I have thought about online play, but thats something i would do after ive finished it..

Amazing. Keep up the good work. Also what did you create these sprites in?

The sprites were modeled in Maya and rigged and rendered in 3dsmax.. 3dsmax has biped which is good coz i reuse alot of animation to save time.

Anyway...

BUG: Jinx threw me out of the view... and i couldn't get back in... I had to wait for the time to run out so the round would finish as she preformed all kinds of moves fighting with the air :)

Nice job nevertheless ;)

I feel Maya has better material control than 3dsmax, so they looked alot better in maya lol well the view port is only 320x240 to keep the size down i had to resize everything down, so that could be why it does blur also.

Yeah thats a bug that randomly pops up two, il have to tweak the camera to compensate for that, thanks for the feedback.

Are there anymore bugs that you may have come across?

I'm still completely blown away. may I ask how you set up the AI? for shooters and such I'd go with a rather simple state machine, but I wonder whether that makes sense here.
do your characters have individual behaviours and if so how did you set that up? how do you control difficulty?

The ai isnt as hard as people may think.. i didnt go as complex as professional games (street fighter 2 for example).. my ai first checks if the character is attacking then block or attack... if attacking then how far away the player is, then at each distance it changes the amount of moves or what moves they do and it randomly just picks one..

eg AI wants to attack... so if Player 01 is close to Player 2 then randomly select between doing an attack, certain special moves or run away (Jinx).

what i didnt do and sorta regret doing now is setting up difficulty levels... i might go back and add it later but wanna wait till all characters are done now.

just and Update on anyone who wants to know....

Maverick is finished now, and came out quite well... hes a projectile specialist similiar to Gambit from Marvel vs Capcom.

Tru7hy is the next character underway, I have done most of his Collision Animations and a few Attacks..Tru7hy is gonna be the Boxer of the game and will play similiar to Balrog and Dudley.. He was also planned to be a charge character similiar to Guile but we'll see how that pans out.

Also Elijah Lucian from the GMC has said he would do the commentary which is awesome..looking forward to throw that in.

KING OF THE STREETS UPDATES....

Progress is going great on KING OF THE STREETS, and surprisingly alot nearer to completion than i could have ever thought possible lol All the Fighters including Final Bossess have been modelled/textured and rigged now which is awesome, so now its just a matter of animating them and coding them in.

- The Select Screen has been re-formatted now it just looks neater and now the final boss appears like Smoke did in Mortal Kombat III..
- Elijah Lucian's Commentary has also been added.....He's done such a good job on them, adds so much to the feel of the game.
- Tru7hy is Complete and fully Playable... again hes a boxer, he has no kicks just different Punch variations and also the first charge character.
- Nifo is also about 90%... he just needs his Fatalities and the rest of his Special Moves and he'll be done.. Nifo is the big man of King of the Streets..Slow and Powerful, he'll play similiar to EHonda..
- D-Rock has a Stance looks rally good to... he will be a Capoeira Fighter.
- Also The Boss will be a Secret Playable Character but only his first form... his Second and Final Form wont be playable, when you eventually see him you'll understand why.

KING OF THE STREETS UPDATES 9/3/11

Again just updating for those who are interested.. King of the Streets is at 90% now! I dont know if you guys want me to put a sample demo up now with all the figthers or just wait til I finish it with everything? so just let me know lol

Heres a Sample Video, This is a CPU vs CPU Fight Between D-Rock and Tru7hy on the Skytower Stage.. The Sky Tower Observation deck is the only stage where you can get a ring out lol NOTE: The Video is quite laggy because of the software I used to record it.. the video freezes in some parts, thats just Fraps being a prick...

PS : Fight ends with a Stage Death

- Every Playable Fighter in the game is Animated and coded in now.. Which is pretty much the majority of the work done so King of the Streets is almost complete... Each character just needs to be Balanced with tweaks here and there..
- The Final Boss is also almost done.. He wont be playable, which cuts alot of work down on his sprites. ^_^
- All the stages have been done to.. Tru7hy (Who is in the game as himself lol) is composing music for them, trying to remove as much copyright stuff as possible just to make it more unique.

The only things left to do now are =======
- Stage Music
- Fighter Endings for Story Mode
- Mid Story Mode Cutscenes
- Credits Screen
- Polish some things up
- And fix various glitches and tweaks and so forth

Also With all the Fighters in the game, I started to have Memory crashes... so to compensate for that There are load screens before and after each fight...on My Laptop 3gb memory (but even then my laptops 2 years old and is SLOW) theres a couple of secs load which aint bad...

Great job on nailing all the "fighter" mechanics... works well.
Nice models & animation... & cool story bits.
Clear that a whole lotta time & effort has gone into this.

Woulda preferred more "unique/crazy/cartoonish" characters & would be nice to see some original moves & stuff, but that's just personal preference.

Congrats on a fantastic game! :)

Yea even now when I see it, it wouldve been so much better to push the characters to extreme designs and better stories.. When we started it though there was no real design about it, we just took photos of ourselves, modeled them then argued with each other "yea ok I wanna be the Wrestler!" and " Give me Jiu jitsu Counters, and Ken's Heel Kick!" lol

after becoming addicted quickly, i wanted to beat it. so after getting my arse kicked by every character a few times each i finally did. and wow, really brilliant game in every single way! i did find a couple of things for you to look at though:

when i dropped down into the strip club from the rooftop, i think i had no energy when i landed. but didn't die, the computer player didn't appear and was just stuck there for 45 seconds until the timer ran out. then had to restart the game.

after playing the game as a 'gamer' i really enjoyed it and thought the AI was first class. so after doing everything's that there i decided to test out the AI. it stood upto pretty much everything. apart from if you use B as your character, and use the light crouch kick non-stop, you can beat every character with just that one move. so might wanna work something into the AI to cure that problem.

other than those two pointers, this is stunning and i'd love to play the full game! :snitch:

lol I didnt know that...thanks I'll fix that one, im sure there are many infinites to, ive found a few which ive began ironing out but things like that are valuable finds..

Yea the ai does cause problems for some people, though once you get use to the system.. it does become alot easier.. I will look into maybe difficulty settings but in my mind its not a priority just yet.. Thanks for the good feedback

Levels? Do you mean Difficulty Levels? Stage Levels? lol I will answer each possibility

Most of the Beta Testers struggled against the ai in Story Mode.. so I have gone through everyone's ai and added an easy mode... so there will be an easy and normal difficulty setting in options..

In Story mode you fight everyone then fight the boss twice... its laid out like this :

- Fight 01 at the Manurewa Train Station
- Fight 02 on the Roof Top
- Fight 03 in the Sewers
-- Smash the Car Bonus Stage
- Fight 04 at Totara Park
- Fight 05 at the Apartment Ruins
- Semi Final at the Sky Tower
-- Smash the Block Bonus Stage
- Final against Rival (Only for some, otherwise you fight remaining fighter)
at the KOTS Arena Fight against Champion
-- Final Battle against Champion Evolved

Its nice to see another quality a game on GMC. God help me if I see another TDS, Sonic, or Pokemon game,anyway... Reminds me of a cross between K.I. and M.K. from back in the day.

Two bugs
0. When i entered the move set menu during a match I couldnt get back out and had to restart.
1. I entered training mode and gat placed int a bonus stage, after finishing the car I had to restart.

Questions
0. were you able to get you mp3's to loop cleanly, or did I just miss the pause between loops if so how?
1. Where did you get your sound effects, are they rips from other fighting games.

Additions
0. A save for story mode would be nice.
2. When the characters duck [especially Saint] the transition is too long and/or can't be canceled into crouching attacks
1. Jinx's uppercut needs a bit more horizontal travel distance.

Please change
0. The footstep sound effect.
