Why? Does it matter? Who cares? And were you a "lurker" all the time since this is only your second post yet you talk about the community since 2007-8... so either you´ve been lurking for 3 years or you have more than one account!
Oh noes! Burn the witches at stake!
Just kidding. actually since about 2005, but it's neither something to be proud of or ashamed of; I care a great deal about this community oh yes indeedy

Actually, I can´t say I´ve noticed that many guests on at ANY time... and I´m pretty sure that the number of users has increased in the time you state due to the Yoyo games deal.

Where did you get that stat from (just curious) ? And what the heck is/caused that steep drop in november 2009 ?<snip image>
Hmm.. Can't say I do remember it happening ...

Come on Ragarnak, you're smarter than that =/
Traffic to YoYoGames.com including sub-domains (can't measure for just GMC) is slightly higher than it was at the start of 2009, and peaked at the start of 2010, and in March 2010. Unfortunately Alexa only goes back so far, and I can't see an export functions.

Without adequate information smartness does not help I'm afraid.Come on Ragarnak, you're smarter than that =/
With only that graph I and having to assume (by the absence of any other info) that its for this forum only I could not help but wonder. From 210 visitors a day to just below 45. Something big must have happened, but I can't remember what. And thats odd to say the least.
So, I sought an explanation for it. Hence my post.
And pardon me, but your reply did not help in that regard. It just gave me conflicting information, not an explanation.
[edit]
I can't seem to see much on that page you linked to. Possibly because I've got all active content (like JavaScript) on pages I do not know disabled.

Exactly.
I can't believe I'm having to explain this to you...take a deep breathe. The graph he posted...is not real. There was not a sudden drop off in 2010. In fact, there was quite a raise in visitors, as I highlighted.

Yes, I'm intelligent enough to see there is something odd there, and that the drop displayed in that graph might not be an actual drop in visitors but could be due to a change in the way the measuring was done. My request was for an EXPLANATION, not a downright ignoring of the information displayed in that graph by presenting other, conflicting information. THAT DOES NOT HELP.
All you're have done is to pretty-much tell me to just ignore anything I see in favour of something you regard as the truth. Besides that not being the point of my question I can't say I like being talked to like that (as my current response might well already have reflected).
I can believe I had to spell that out ....
[edit]
Forget it. I was just curious, I currently don't like to have to fight over getting an answer to it. You've effectivily squashed my curiosity. I hope you're happy now.

To repeat my initial question : what caused that graph to display that steep decline in november 2009 ? Anyone knows ?

Him.

You mean someone posted fake data as a joke? Here? On the GMC? ... c'mon now.The graph he posted...is not real. There was not a sudden drop off in 2010. In fact, there was quite a raise in visitors, as I highlighted.
From your topic title, I expected a more detailed question about demographics. Like age, nationality, profession, etc. At least that would be interesting.Has the number of users decreased dramatically since 2007-8 or is it just me, or are more simply lurking as guests?
Maybe we can convince A Saurus to make another survey.

Normally that would cause an increasing of posts (new stuff to learn) and thus members being on line, not a steep drop.<snip image>
Him.
Oh, you mean because so many members disliked the new logo that thay just quit the forum ? Although that sounds quite childish and was done by a lot of members (which did not even come back after a while) it could be an explanation.

ragarnak, there's a bridge in New York City I like to sell you.Oh, you mean because so many members disliked the new logo that thay just quit the forum ? Although that sounds quite childish and was done by a lot of members (which did not even come back after a while) it could be an explanation.

I didn't say I believed it, I said it could be an explanation.ragarnak, there's a bridge in New York City I like to sell you.
At the moment its the best one I got, apart from my own "could be a change in the way of measuring" one ofcourse (which I think has a higher probability
But about that bridge, how much do you say that would cost ? I live in the Netherlands which has a lot of water-ways, so I'm pretty sure I could sell it at a profit.
And hey, don't you have a nice big statue for me as well ? Would probably look nice next to that bridge.

An even higher probability is that the graph is completely made up.At the moment its the best one I got, apart from my own "could be a change in the way of measuring" one ofcourse (which I think has a higher probability
)
Besides, I sold the bridge yesterday to some Japanese tourists.

Therefore, no explanation is required.
But yes, that could be another possibility, though one I think has an even lower probability than the one dave posted himself.
I must say that I'm using "Occams razor" here, which states that the simpelest solution is also the most probable one. In this case its the before-mentioned change in measuring-method.
D*mn. I allways seem to miss out on the good deals ...Besides, I sold the bridge yesterday to some Japanese tourists.

Just use common sense. The graph shows the average users/day at a level of about 45, starting about 2010. Now, look at the number of users online right now (bottom of page). About 300! That's been typical for the past few months.
Also, look at the statistic showing the most users online (bottom of page): that occurred October 3, 2010.
Compare that to the graph.
