This is my first game in GM4Mac. I have very little experience. This is sort of a practice game to get the hang of the program. I'll be posting a much larger more polished shooting game later.

Game Name: Gunslinger
File Size: 9.5MB
Screen Resolution: 640 x 480

Description: It's a very simple action game. It requires two players. At the top of the screen four letters will appear over each player. You must type those letters on the keyboard faster than your opponent types his four letters. The game counts how many times each player has won. I use it as a way to settle disputes with my room mates. There are still some bugs to work out, but you may not notice them. The game is perfectly playable.

There is an error at times before you begin the shoot out.

___________________________________________
Error in code at line 1:
if L1.sprite_index=S

at position 7: Unknown variable sprite_index

This qualifies more as a mini-game than an actual game. In addition, I HATE that you forced people to play in fullscreen. It's very annoying to do such a thing. In addition, the game is way too simple, you should add the collision of bullets and repeating of typing different letters instead of continuous fire after you type up all the letter. Also think of a few ideas that can make this original.

If you want, can you check out my games for Mac?

Thanks for the feedback. I found the error you were talking about. It happens when you press one of the keys before you get the message to shoot. It should be an easy fix. Thanks for the suggestions about gameplay as well. It really was just a quick practice game though, so I probably won't expand it any further. I've started working on a much larger more polished game instead.

Its really not bad at all for a first game.
The simple retro style was charming, and there were a few nice details, like the blinking of the 'SHOOT!' text, that gave it an overall polished feel.
I also like how slowly the bullets move, so if you and your nemesis finish at nearly the same time, there are a few seconds of tension when you aren't sure who will win.

Still, this is the kind of game that could be made in a couple hours, heck, maybe 30 minutes if you already had the art and font available.

I understand that you probably wont expand any more on this game, but I would recommend an option to play in windowed mode, and an explanation of how to quit the game, for those who aren't familiar with GM.

Thanks for the comment. 30 minutes is pretty fast! It actually took me more like 10 hours(including art). I spent a lot of time with trial and error. I guess I still have a lot to learn.
