I don't know how popular Dragon Age: Origins was, but in my opinion it was an amazing game. I've easily put more hours into that game than any one person should. At first news, I was overly excited about the upcoming sequel, purchased a gamer magazine just for an article on it... But I was thoroughly disappointed when I read that the game, unlike the previous, would not be allowing the player's to create their character. Instead you play as Hawke, a male warrior.
To me, the character creation and origins in the first game was the deal sealer. But now I'm warily looking forward to the sequel's release, unsure if I'll want to shell out the 60$ for it. I've already been greatly disappointed by Final Fantasy XIII (though looking forward to Versus XIII) and don't want to go through that again.
What does the rest of the community think?

I haven't played that game, however, I love character customization.
For instance, being able to at least create a character that is used for, say, after the main story, is still fun, but I like to create the main character.
Bottom line: Creating your own character just helps me get into the game more... like Oblivion, that was a good example.

usually games improve and expand features when they release sequels.
going from custom chars to preset chars is a step back, it indicates everything else in the game will be preset also. (there'll be less optional content)
the FF series became disappointing.. ditto fallout 3..
read a few reviews before you shell out $60..

One character? With a *choose your offensive word of choice* name? Yuck.
DA:O was great. I'm not a graphics whore, but give me DA:O with a purty graphics engine and I'll gladly hand over another $100, but playing as warrior "Hawke" sounds awful. I hope your sources are incorrect.

Well, this article seems to clarify some misconceptions (I blame on the magazine I bought): Joystiq Article
The game will feature a character creation, just not as in-depth... it sounds like it'll allow choice of gender and customizable appearance, though.

It's not that bad actually. Played Mass Effect?
