When I close Game Maker games, my screen blanks out in a manner that is similar to changing the resolution of my desktop. I don't know how long it has been doing this; I haven't used Game Maker as much since I got my new computer, but I think it gave me the blue screen of death one time.

I use Game Maker 7 and I am running it on Windows 7 64-bit.

Is anyone else encountering this problem?

EDIT: Using YoYo InstantPlay doesn't give me the same issue, however, a friends game from Game Maker 8 does the same thing.

Yes, this happens to me occasionally. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit and GM8.

However, this is not really an issue to me.

Occasionally happens to me as well, Windows 7 x64 with GM8. I've never had any problems on my other computer (Windows XP x32 with GM8).

Same, it was fine on my old Vista 32-bit. Sometimes when I'm running two monitors the flickering is pretty annoying, and one time after closing a GM game my computer froze before sending me to the blue screen of death (when I decided to do something about it). I reinstalled my graphics card drivers and it didn't make a difference.

There have been some people who've reported problems due to surfaces in Windows 7, maybe that's the cause...

Sounds like what I see sometimes when closing a GM game on Windows 7 32bit but even when it happens I barely pay it much attention. It only happens for a second and then is fine so not really seen it as a problem.

Sorry for the bump, but I'd like to add that it isn't 7. I get it too, on XP SP2 with GM8.

Happens to me too, on Win7 x64. It only really happens once (first time after restarting), then it doesn't.

Thats odd, this never happens on my Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium..
Actually, my PC does exactly what TheMagicNumber stated above, however, it does not happen every time after a restart / power on, only selectively..

Check your graphics card settings. Some cards use 24 bits colors, which Gm doesn't support. If your graphics are displayed in 24 bits, Gm changes that to 16 bits, which causes that flickering when you close the game. There might be other explanations too, but it's most likely a graphics issue so you should at first try to upgrade your graphics drivers.

It doesn't explain it for me, it never happened with GM7 (for me, at least).

Always happens to me the first time I exit a GM application after booting Win7 32bit. The screen flashes black for a second. It didn't happen on other OS's (2000, XP, Vista, -32bit) on the same hardware. It doesn't happen the second time when I close one, really only the first time. And, btw, my graphics are set to 32bit, that 24bit thing doesn't have anything to do with this. I sort of reported this before on the bugs website.

I know, this is an old topic... but I have the same problem now for some reason. Anything made in Game Maker, when closed, will make my screen flash. It wasn't like this when I first got my computer, and I don't know what caused it to start happening. Oddly enough, I can make it happen at will with this code:
display_set_size(display_get_width(), display_get_height());
It seems to me that Game Maker is issuing a command to reset the screen resolution back to default, even though it was never changed.

The screen shouldn't flash when this happens, but Game Maker also shouldn't be issuing unnecessary commands like this.

If this is a bug, it first showed up in version 6. Version 5 doesn't flash the screen. :P

I found the cause of the screen flash, at least for me, and apart from the unnecessary resolution reset. It was caused by installing "BB Flashback" screen recorder, which installs a driver. I uninstalled BB Flashback and GM applications no longer flash my screen black on exit, although they're still attempting to "change" the resolution to what it already is.
