This project has been cancelled due to a lack of interest. I will leave it on my website so as it may be downloaded, but no future work is planned.

i got stuck by a wall once, some portals will spawn horozontally on walls, and I don't like the view movement

Good engine though, movement works well

Hmm...what WOULD happen if the laser shined through a never ending loop of portals? Methinks certain death of computer processor at the hands of the BSOD.

Anyways, the walls have a weird problem where the laser can go through and spawn perpendicular to. You can increase the mask or detection to prevent that though. Also, if you're using surfaces to draw the reflection at the other portal, you should change it so it only captures and draws right in FRONT of the portal, not a rectangle around the whole thing, since it looks weird like that.

The movement of the player had some problems too. When I was walking on a block above a portal, it did some weird glitchy movement and got me stuck like this: Posted Image

Other than those problems, this engine looks very nice though the view movement could be changed a bit--perhaps a max range from the player where you can aim?

Small update, I took the laser out seeing as it probably wasn't going to stay anyway, and for now i have just stoped the camera movement.

Spanone, I havn't encountered portals spawning incorectly unlease i tried to shoot a portal into a portal or into a corner, perhaps a screenshot of the event?.
Also iluvfuz, have you been able to get stuck like that without a portal being in a corner? It is also really common to get cubes stuck like that.

Anyway, I'll fix up portal spawning later, but for now I have a bigger dilema.

Wow, lots and lots of collision problems. Not only with the character but with the portals themselves. Sometimes they spawn on the other side of the walls and boxes disappear.

@fuz - If the line was drawing correctly, it could never been in an endless loop through the portals (should it stop on collision with an object or the character). Plus, even if it could, you could write a small if check for a collision with itself and tell it to stop drawing.

Geez, the loop of lasers was a joke. And Lemon, yes I have been stuck there too--along with a few boxes.

I really like it but the graphics and some physics make me think again playing this!Work on that and it's going to be great!:P

So far this is the best 2d portal engine i've seen on the gmc. Aside from the bugs and glitches, and the less than phenomenal graphics, this is pretty sweet. Dunno if anyone mentioned yet, but i was able to shoot outside of the level, and that electric effect froze up the game and it restarted.

The majority of these problems have been fixed, however I will have to rely on the community for making the graphics phenomenal as I am a programmer, not an artist ;)

This is a good engine that has lots of potential, and the chance to make some great games..

One thing i noticed, if you spawn a portal on a wall, and the other portal higher up on the same wall, you come out of the portal facing the way you came in, which results in you getting stuck going between portals, if you hold down the button in the way you were going.

You're not really getting stuck, you're just changing direction all the time, however I'll see what I can do.

I can't figure out how to open the door.


Sorry, but the door doesn't open at this stage, it's just a testing level for the engine :\

You now rotate from your new position when comeing out of a portal

One thing i noticed, if you spawn a portal on a wall, and the other portal higher up on the same wall, you come out of the portal facing the way you came in, which results in you getting stuck going between portals, if you hold down the button in the way you were going.


I have resolved this now, you can't run unless you are facing the right way up.


Add terminal velocity. Funky stuff happens if you make the portals just fall into each other. I seriously thought the game was going to explode... That and then I shot a portal and I glitched into a wall(this is after falling for a while).


I removed terminal velocity to demonstrate how the portals can work at extremely high (actually unlimited) velocity. The 'Funky stuff' would be the view shaking uncontrolably and your speakers making an incredibly irritating buzz? As for the getting stuck I have just been fixing that (hopefully) ;)

Also I have just fixed another glitch where you could rapidly click while hovering in a portal and get paused for a moment, then slowly start getting propelled faster and faster and faster...
