  • Title: Getting Game Maker Support for the Ogmo Editor
  • Description: This teaches you how to load files created by Matt Thorson's Ogmo Editor. In addition it teaches you basic xml structure
  • GM Version: Tutorial teaches to work in any version, but the example is in GM8
  • Registered: Yes
  • File Type: Tutorial: .html / Example: .zip
  • File Size: 39.20KB
  • File Link: Tutorial: Visit / Example: Download
Additional Info
The Ogmo Editor is a great freelance tool developed by Matt Thorson, the creater of the Jumper series (hence, Ogmo!) It's a neat, organized visual level editor that's very customizable and incredibly useful. It's still not completed, but that doesn't stop it from being great! Visit the website and give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

OGMO EDITOR WEBSITE

This requires the use of the gmXML extension by Shiny. I have included it in the .zip, just in case you don't already have it.

I got to try and use this during the Global Game Jam this year.
While I was grouped with Matt Thorson and others.

His level editor is pretty nice, much nicer then GMs that's for certain.
And it can work with Flashpunk and other flash libraries as well I believe so it's rather useful.

Nice find brod!

This is pretty nice, and like Nic James said, it does work well. I can see many people using this for a level editor / add-on system.

@Punky: Yep, it works in pretty much any language as long as you can figure out how to get xml support going. That's one of the many reasons it's so great ^^
@cpsgames: Thanks, though I haven't received any comments about the tut, any problems or things that anyone wants clarified? This is my first tutorial and I'm pretty sure there's something in there I did badly. :/

Also thanks xot for fixing the first post. I get carried away, sometimes :s

Why not ask on the forum dedicated to it? I myself do not know.

Well, is there really no one with a problem with the tutorial? I'd like to make it as good as possible but I'm not getting any feedback about it.

I forgot about this topic :P, and I think the example was perfect for demonstrating what it does. Didn't find any errors.

No matter how many times I try to open the example .zip it says its corrupted. Re-downloaded it many times to no avail. :(

Hmmm. You are right... I'll PM Brod about this.

Thanks for this. I extended it slightly while working on a recent project, which might be helpful to some people.

Changes include:

- support for importing grids exported as objects and grids exported as... grids
- exposed tile width, height and tile per row settings to more easily support multiple tilesets

Posting Code and/or Variations in Someone's Topic

  • If you have a suggestion, you may post a code snippet. But you may NOT post another version for download. That confuses the topic, and all such posts will be deleted if the author reports them. Instead, send your version via PM to the original author for them to decide whether to post it or not.

Pucone, if you have added something then please PM the original poster and ask him to include it in his original post. I have removed your link for now...

Work you still remember? Yeah, I know, this is 2 Years ago...

An export for Game Maker Studio (*.room files) would be interesting :)
