every time you load the game or lose all your lives.

The load thing isn't really a problem for me because the first time I beat the game it was in one sitting. The lose all your lives thing also wasn't a problem because the game does not have lives. I have no idea what you're even thinking about there.

since it's been ages since I've played that game i could easily have been wrong about the lives thing there. I do remember it pissed me off for all the wrong reasons.

Iji's restrictive engine leads to its boring and repetitive gameplay

Commodore, I'd sure like to see a game from you if that's possible, it must be simply flawless and brilliant! Do you have a site?

The graphics for this game where, Okay.
The story had a bad start, i could not get what was going on at first, but got better.
The gameplay was missing something, but still fun at times, but a little repetitive.
The interface was good.
Sound effects, where really good.
Good variety of different Enemies.

Overall a 7/10 for me,
<LINKS REMOVED>

but there are other games, just got to remember there names.

Can you guys please stop linking to other games in the Iji topic. I realise it's a popular game, and that distorts things, but imagine if someone came onto your game's topic and started suggesting other games to play. You wouldn't like it very much, so give Ultimortal some respect.

I really don't understand why other games cannot be mentioned in comparison. A good tool when critiquing a work is comparing it to similar works that came before or after it, and discussing what they did right/wrong in relation to the talked-about work.

If someone says "I like -link- better", that's a legit piece of constructive criticism (of course we hope that they go into more detail, but that's beside the point right now) where the poster has linked to a game that the creator can learn from. I'm against shameless advertising, don't get me wrong, but I think this is a rare exception where we should allow linking to other games.

I think this game is really bad . Ihave noticed that everyone in this thread just gangs up on anyone who does not love their beloved Iji so I will just leave it at that . I 'd give it a 1/10 if I had to honestly rate thsi .

Everyone has their own opinions. Sometimes it's best to keep them to ourselves if they are going to hurt someone's feelings:) You can see that Ultimortal has worked very hard on this game so it won't be a good idea to call it "bad" in the its own topic, especially.

This isnot iji's topic it's a review topic . Also why would I care about a game developer's feeling ? It's his job to make me satisfied with his game but Iji is boring and a waste of my time playing . Why would I say nice things about it ?

Oh the consumer-end logic, so self-entitled.

The game wasn't created for YOU specifically. It was created to meet the vision of the creator. If you can't understand and respect this fundamental consumer-producer relationship, you have no right to be reviewing content.

EDIT: also, before you go lambasting my statement, please explain WHY Iji is a bad game in a non-opinionated criticism. Talk about the game mechanics in particular please

You should care about a game developer's feeling just as you want others to care about your feelings. Game developers are still human beings so you still have to show respect.

And why exactly is Iji bad? You can't just come out and say "Oh, this game is bad" and leave. Explain why it's bad.

The game wasn't created for YOU specifically.

Yes it was . I am the player and the game is supposed to entertain me .

And why do u want me to explain myself if all you do is unrep me ? When someone posts here " it's good " nobody asks them to explain . But as soon as someone says the game is bad everyone jumps on him . That's stupid , I have my right to an opinion just like you do and if you unrep me then don't expect me to listen to you . It's pathetic . And don't give me that crap about game developers "vision " because games are not supposed to be art they are supposed to be fun and fast paced and action-filled and Iji Is NONE Of that . Seriously you need to face the facts and GROW up .

Hoo boy, time to divert a flame war:

There is such thing as "target audience".

I unrepped you because I found your post to be unconstructive and borderline attacking. You can downrep me too if you feel it's deserving, it's just numbers. You give no reasoning to back up your statements. Which leads to my next point:

When someone posts here " it's good " nobody asks them to explain . But as soon as someone says the game is bad everyone jumps on him . That's stupid , I have my right to an opinion just like you do and if you unrep me then don't expect me to listen to you . It's pathetic .

This is true: praise often goes untested by those around them if the general feeling of the community is that the piece in question is "good". Likewise, criticizing something that most of the community percieves as bad will also most likely not yield any questioning. It's the curse of having an unpopular opinion. I try to back up my statements with examples and reasoning so as to validate what I'm saying, whether it's the popular opinion or not.

If you explain your reasoning as to WHY Iji is a bad game, others will take your criticism as valid and insightful.

And don't give me that crap about game developers "vision " because games are not supposed to be art they are supposed to be fun and fast paced and action-filled and Iji Is NONE Of that . Seriously you need to face the facts and GROW up .

It depends on your definition of art: I find games to be an artform for very simple reasons: visual presentation, storytelling mechanisms (many "video games are art" believers will point out that videogames are what movies used to be waaay back in the day: the new stroytelling technique that has yet to be taken seriously as an artform. You can thank games such as CoD for this stigma), and creator-user interaction the likes of which are not present in any other form of art. Paintings, music, movies ect all convey something from the creator to the receiver (viewer, listener, ect.), but videogames do it in a much more interactive manner. It's an artistic medium that is just starting to be tapped into.

An example: You go to movies because they are entertaining, no? But are movies not visions of the creator meant to be analyzed as works of art? This might not apply to all movies (a LOT of movies), but there's a similar occurrence in the video game world.
