The Game Maker GUI Designer is a simple to use program for creating game GUIs (Graphical user interfaces) that can be exported into game maker games.[/size]

The program is made of the main window, overlayed by toolbars and the toolbar manager. The five toolbars allow you to change different aspects of your project. Simply drag the tools onto the the main window, rearrange them and modify their properties. When your done, save then export your project into game maker. The tools are customisable and allow their properties to either be static, or controled by a function. The way it connects into the rest of your game is through global variables, so simply set global.playerhealth to 50, and your GUI will update automatically. Detailed instructions for exporting into a game can be found in help (F1).

I hope people find this useful and provide helpful feedback,

Note: The *.gui and *.gml files created by this program are property of the person who created them through my program. So feel free to do whatever you want with them :D.

not a bad application! I wasn't sure what to expect before downloading but after I opened it up it's actually pretty nifty.
it has some nice features and could definitely help a lot of people.
if nikc nack's willing to help with your graphics, good...great! the way it looks now isn't bad, but it certainly doesn't help.

the widgets could use some help, I know there are plenty of API examples here that could really turn this into an excellent program.

a suggestion...import custom sprites for the rectangles, or just add another tool that would import a sprite.

good luck!

Thankyou for the feedback.

Yes, the graphics could use some improvement. I'm not exactly an artist :D
There's not to much I can do about the widgets. I am going to improve the textboxes in the final release, and I can improve the graphics.
And as I said, the final release will have heaps more, maybe hundreds more tools, which will include loading an image.

Can this be used for example... for making menus and cutscenes? Do you want credit in the game if this tool is used?
Edit: If I make a big rectangle as a background and then try to add some text, I can't type the text because everytime I try to, it selects the background.

The main purpose is for making GUI's, although the final release will be capable of making menus. Cutscenes can't be made with this program.

Credit is not required, but it would be really appreciated.

Give the background rectangle a higher depth than the text box. In the release, I'll make a background option.

Bug: when you first launch the program, and disable properties, the font for variables will change momentarily.
Bug: textbox code output contains two ; at the end of the draw text line.

Overall a very clean program. Would be more useful if the window could enlarge, even if you simply enter the width and height, so that it will work for different size rooms. If it could, then I couldn't figure out how to do it.

Thanks for the reply. The two bugs you described will be easy fixes.

Unfortunately, I already know of the room resizing problem, and it just isn't possible in Game maker :chikin. My solution was to release the game in many different resolution versions. Make a room size request and I'll put it up on this topic in 5 minutes. I use 640x480 because it is the most commonly used room size.

There are options other than resizing the room, like using views. Search around and you can find some.

Both logos look really cool *throws mine out the window*. Hmm... they both look good enough, but I'll have to wait for Nikc-nack's final copy till I decide. Yes, "Rafferty97" in the corner would finish it off. I was going to put in my own (pretty crappy) logo, but it didn't quite work.

Anyway, you'll know who's I pick when I change it in my post. Thanks for all the support,

- Alex

[EDIT]: Nikc-nack, I think your text is AWESOME (seriously), but I think that the shapes need to be under the text and a tad smaller. I just think it would look more balanced.

[EDIT2]: I am going to use LAR's for the time being since it looks more complete. Lar: would you mind producing a scaled down version, about the same dimensions as the logo in my sig. Thanks :).

Alright, does anyone here think they are descent at programming? The thing is, GMGD is becoming a big project, and all the programming required is beginning to overwhelm me. So if anyone beleives in this project and wouldn't mind giving me a hand in the programming side of things, then please send me a PM. Anyone who helps will be credited in the first post.

Well, I like your programm, doesn't have many functions (yet?) though, but the present ones are pretty usefull.
The only bad thing I found - it uses surfaces, so the drawn interface might not work on all machines.
I rate 4/5.

competion, seems like it. Your program seems more like MS Paint, while mine is based on something like MS Powerpoint. Most of the functions are in place, I just need to add more tools (the things you stick into the project). These are stored as files, making it easier to make new ones and share them. New features will come in V2, new tools in V1.

I would like to inform you of what a GUI actually is:
It's a Graphical User Interface (I know you already said that).

When I first noticed this topic, I was more expecting application GUI's.
A GUI has a lot more than just boxes, text, and healthbars.
Where are the buttons? The checkboxes? The tabs?
A GUI is what you see on level editors, model designers, etc.

My signature has a link to a group of professional GUI components I spent days making (although, they're a bit difficult to handle). That's sorta what I was expecting.
