Bubblez is my competition 5 entry for 2010.

What is Bubblez:
Bubblez is a 2d puzzle game, in which you start off every level as a small bubble, and use the arrow keys to move around. Once you have found a place, press space to inflate your bubble, and bubblez that hit that bubble will infalte and so on. The objective of this game is to inflate as many of the other bubbles around your screen as you can. Each other bubble you inflate will score you 20 points, and you must get equal or over the levels 'Par' to win, in which case the next level will unlock. There are 18 levels in total (I would have added more, but I started this 10 days before the competition was over) , and they contain more and more hazardous items as you progress, like blades and TNT. Most bubblez will move around freely, but ones with blue halos around them will run away from you.

Not bad.

It is ok, but for me gets kind of repetitive too quickly. Not a bad effort, but not something that I would play - its not really enough of a challenge.

And I use Windows 7 - so it works.

<_< thanks for that.
Did you notice any framerate drops while playing?

I did as a matter of fact, but I thought it was my machine. I got to level 5, then at random points, the frame-rate dropped dramatically. I don't know what the problem is, but it does hinder gameplay.

yes, unfortunately that framerate stuff has been a problem since day 1. Its to do with the colisions between the moving blades and other bubbles :\

In a moment of boredom, I pulled your game out of the recycle bin and played it. at the end, when you choose whether or not to start a new game, there is this error

___________________________________________
ERROR in
action number 1
of Other Event: Room End
for object fw_emitter:

Error in code at line 1:
part_emitter_destroy_all(ps)

at position 26: Unknown variable ps

If you submitted this for comp05, it has the same glitch.

Update: I fixed the slow framerates (I think). The problem was the rotating blades used image_angle to rotate, and the collisions between that and the bubbles seemed to really confuse gamemaker, so I fixed it by having a few sub images :)
