Back on topic: I use McAfee too, and just installed their latest update, and they seem to have resolved the problem. McAfee doesn't catch GM games as trojans anymore!

Looks like crisis averted... until the next update =3

Because they use McAfee SiteAdvisor, which scans the sites? Sometimes it gives a false positive, but not always.

Yes, and just like normal virus-scanners it (most likely) can be evaded (at least for some time). And what about the times it gives a false negative ? :P

That's a problem of course :P. You can't always avoid everything, but for most sites (and the average Internet user) this level of protection is enough. The kind of sites that do manage to evade such protection don't tend to offer 100% legal things anyway, and the people who find links to such sites generally know that.

Don't bet on that. The baddies are more-and-more either finding ways to lure their victims onto their legit-looking websites, or simply poison existing websites (even of companies) with their cr*p (one such method : cross-site scripting).

It's a false positive, GM games will (usually) not be viruses.

Just throwing in my 2 cents. I haven't used anti virus programs since the mid 90's But especially now. Windows security works fine. You have more problems with all kinds of stuff with anti virus soft. I think they create the real viruses themselves anyway just to stay in business. :)

Install a good virus scanner, like avast. and get rid of the one you use right now.
