Large number of physics objects, large number of static (i.e.e colliding but not moving) objects, very complex physics objects, ease of use, ease of modification, least number of bugs, etc...
It is rare that one engine is unmitigatedly "better" or "worse" than another. We need to know what you plan on using them for and what you are looking for. Otherwise we can't tell what's best or not.

There's an example for locking the Z-axis, allowing one to do 2d physics. Postality is also creating a complete 2d interface for GMNewton 2.
Another engine not mentioned is GMBullet. It is, as GMNewton is, 3d. I do believe there is a way to lock the z axis in that as well.

It is outdated, so what?
Its getting outdated for people to request engines, especially when they are really really really really easy to find. Probably within the first 3 pages of the DLL section, but that didn't stop you did it?
People will continue to suggest the search function simply because its the most logical answer, it also makes people mad
Not only that, it teaches you not to be spoon fed (Simply asking for something and having it given to you on a silver plate), it teaches you to do research yourself, and you often find other interesting stuff while searching. Honestly, I think searching is 10 times better than anyone simply providing a link.

In all seriousness, search next time. Even check the pinned topics. GMToolbox (the pinned topic at the top of the extending game maker forum) listed most of the physics DLLs.
If everyone did a search, we wouldn't have 80,000 topics about mouse aiming or slopes. And we certainly wouldn't have topics about links to engines that are easily accessible via a search in the right forum.
And I don't know where you came up with the idea that searching the forum is "outdated," especially since you joined less than a year ago and have only 49 posts. If you get this sort of response a lot, perhaps you should heed the advice.
