I hope cage matches open again soon.

I guess a lot can happen when you don't visit a forum for a couple months... =(

That's a shame, but a necessary one I guess. For me, the Cage Match is something I find difficult to remember week in week out and then find the time for (to play both games properly).

well, I have a few things to say:

1. Newer users won't know the cage match is even here, with it being tucked into a corner of a SUBforum....

2. A divide into classes would be nice. It not only adds variety of choice, but creates better matchups. A decent RPG IS going to beat even the best platformer, with the going rates around here (rare exceptions excluded, of course).

3. To many users whom I talk to, it seems like it's always the same people in the cage match, making it like a panel show where there's nothing really to win or lose, just celebs having their screen time and laughs.

=)

As soon as If the cage match comes back up, I'm going to have an image link to the cage match in my sig. I hope other members will too.

Well personally I have a couple of suggestions that I think might make the cagematch more attractive
1.make once a month or every two of weeks instead of every week
2.turn into a full fledged forum instead of a subforum so its more noticeable
I think most of us will like more than a week to play the game if its good.

What exactely does "a little rest" means? Is it a subtile figure of speech meaning that we are supposed to say "Rest in peace"?!

I guess.

I remember doing the Cagematch. Boy was that ever a lot of controversy.
I think it needed more advertising. There are a million Creations subforums now and this one doesn't stick out at all.
A banner for the current Cagematch at the top of the forum listing would help, and it's dead simple to implement in vBulletin.

I remember when people were trying to get the Cage Match back, and then it came back, and now it's gone again.
Members who have been here longer probably remember that happening more than once.

Albach Blackrat did say it was temporary, hence hiatus.

Will it return by the end of 2011?

Maybe have it connected to the GMC Jam in some way? Just a thought.

Absolutely the right choice. There's no reason to link the Cage Match to any other contest.

The GMC has a problem overdosing on popular games and/or authors, and endlessly repeating discussions about the same handful of games. Like Jumper... or Iji, to the point that they eclipse other good games.

So... when are you going to re-start the Cage Match?

Yes, considering that its been "on hiatus" for over a year now...

Maybe one of the new moderators would like to take control?

The Cage Match was always a thrill because it was the one thing that was completely regulated by members of the GMC. Sure, we had a Ablach Blackrat (and I think dorfsquest originally) posting the topics and keeping things in check, but the community members had 100% control over the outcome, whereas competitions are up to a panel of judges.

I don't post here much anymore, but I'd love to see a return of that kind of exciting user-driven content.

Ah, really? Where did you hear that one?

Typical GMC rumor: Another member told me he PM'd a moderator (Takagi... I think) about this. Takagi said he considered doing it himself, but didn't really have time (school, etc). Takagi mentioned ugriffin might be interested in taking over.

Secondhand information. That's why I said it was a rumor.

Either way, you're in a position to give us facts. The GMC is eager to hear some. Any news on ugriffin's decision?

Weeelllll.... I can neither confirm nor deny the rumour. Posted Image

What I can say, is that we have an admins discussion topic about this and several things ahve been brought up... BUT there have been no real conclusions drawn other than the fact that the GMC needs/wants something like this. The success of the GMCJam seems to be a reference and other smaller scale mini-competitions and similar have been discussed as a monthly/bi-weekly type of thing to challenge GMC members.

Glad to hear there's discussion.

Mini-competitions with interesting restrictions would be fun. One-script games, single-button games, no pre-made graphics, etc. (selected by moderator's choice)

One mini-comp between each Jam would break the monotony, without being too much work for moderators.

Lack of Community interest : Now, just because 20 people vote for it in one topic, if in that topic only 23 people have actually posted then that is NOT representative of the community! There are over 150,000 members here so just because a handful show interest, that does not mean that the community is showing interest.

Of which about 149,982 members are inactive. Yes, it does mean that the community is showing interest.

[*]Pointlessness of competing : This is an obvious one - what do games like Iji and Adrenalin have in common except GM? Nothing! And that is the major flaw in the cagematch... How can two games from completely different genres and styles be compared? They can't (not fairly)...

Oh come on. There's people out there comparing Skyrim to Modern Warfare 3...

[*]Moderators with little time : the Cagematch needs moderator control and input, and it may be that none are willing to take it over. I would be interested, but the 3 monthly GMC jam and my other duties make it impossible... If no other mod/admin shows interest then it can't happen.

*cough*PurpleFuzzy*cough*. I also could run it, and I'm sure others out there would/could run it too.

EDIT: How the hell did this end up in this topic, when it should be here?
