  • Game Name: Phystris
  • Licensing: FREEWARE ($16.50 $9.90 $0)
  • Category: Arcade, puzzle/action.
  • File Size: 19 MB
  • GM Version: Game Maker 6.1 Vista/7-converted and patched with AntiDec
  • Windows Vista/7 Compatible!
  • Screen Resolution: 640 x 480
  • Changes Screen Resolution: Depending of User settings. Default: NO!
  • Mulitplayer: no
  • Download Link: Installer [recommended] (The ZIP version MAY NOT work on Vista/7, especally with the activation! It failed at all tests. That is, I use Windows 7 features like VirtualStore. PhysTris is not one-exe-file game. Also it does use some redistributables because of the DLL software prerequirements. If you are expert GM user, you know that if game uses external files AND DLLs it just may NOT work as expected on Vista/7 That is the reason with the installer only version)

PhysTris is a physics-based puzzle/action innovative game, where your aim is to score as many points as possible, playing at game modes like Lines Out, Color lines and so on. The falling pieces are physically simulated, giving you completely new degree of experience in this genre.

You click, then the blocks fall, and if there is a combination, it disappears. All above it falls down, physically. This way you can create combos and chains, scoring more points than the normal.

There are several play modes, all with different rules:

  • In Mission mode your aim is to complete each mission in three mission packs: easy, medium and hard.
  • In Lines Out mode, your aim is to make full lines horizontally. They will then disappear and all above them will fall down.
  • In Color Lines mode, you must make same-colored horizontal or vertical lines, that will disappear.
  • In Color Areas mode you should place figures in same color next to each other to make as big as possible color zones each from same color that will disappear.
The fundamental of physics-based gameplay, will, however, do some nasty things. Figures will never be prefectly-aligned. You should find a way to bump and hit them with other figures. And if there are nasty placed figures, don't panic. The detection algoritms are tollerant and will allow non-perfect combinations. If you drop a figure from more highly, the figure will gain more strength and will hit other figures so they will bounce.

Items exist to make your game more easy or more hard. There are several types of different items that do very different things.

I don't like the graphics, they seem too plain.

I don't feel like paying for tetris with one extra feature.

Umm, 18 mb shouldn't take over half and hour to download.... it usually takes about 3 minutes. Is this a problem with your server, or something?

Anyway, looks screenies and video look good, and errr, the download is going *slowly*, but I'll be back to tell you what I think of the game! Good luck with selling it. :)

The gameplay is OK, Though I *hate* games that you have to pay for... We should get a discount since we are you're fellow "colleagues" (even though we mostly don't know each other... :))

But that can only be good news, right? :)

Well! The game is very polish, everything seems to work very smoothly and the gameplay is a pretty cool unique twist on an old classic. It's kinda cool to drop the bricks, and watch them tumble about, and the game is pretty challenging. There were lots of other nicks&naks that kept me occupied.

Good work!

@Recreate, this project may look simple, but it has been developed about an year. Game development is heavy project. I am charging only $9, see that there are games that are simpller than mine and wants more money. That is, this is work. Hard work. Hard testing and hard planning. And server costs, domain costs and so on.
And someday when you start producing good games, you will see how long work a small game like Phystris may cost. Also, i really don't know you so you aren't my collegue. People that helped me gets their free versions, however.. Coderchris for example :)

@Desert Dog, thanks for your opinion

Just letting everyone know that this game is top notch. Definitely something you'd actually see on the shelf next to professional games! And no I'm not getting paid or anything to say this and I don't even know the thread starter. Really worth checking out!

Tetris is fun but this game pretty much has no challenge. For tetris, it goes down and down till it stops on something so you have to be fast. For this game, all you have to do is just place any block you want and have as much time as possible. Thats not even a challenge.

If this took your hard time then im sorry. This game is not really a challenge

Looks quite professional, yes, but why should I even consider paying $10 for it when I can't even try out a demo?

Unless he took it off, there's a demo on his website at http://phystris.com. Why he isn't replying instead of me I have no clue.

Umm, and the link to the demo is in the first post... both for an installer, or a .zip file. :)

Yes. The demo is still there and will always be there. On my web site, and on the first post.
@Spot On J2K, thanks for your comments. I was offline for a short time.

It's looks pretty good. I wouldn't buy it even if I did have money, though- the price is too high for the game that you get, basically. I'd estimate this one's worth at around $3 to $5 at most, not because it's bad, but because you've chosen to make a casual game and therefore should have a casual price, if you know what I mean. Also, I would advise against using the built-in GM effects, it comes off as a sort of rookie thing to do, even though the rest of it doesn't (and for the record, that's no dealbreaker or anything, more of a nitpicky sort of issue).

The gameplay is OK, Though I *hate* games that you have to pay for... We should get a discount since we are you're fellow "colleagues" (even though we mostly don't know each other... )

That's easily one of the most foolish things I've ever read on these forums.

The game is now freeware. Forever. I will even open-source it soon :) The reason is that PhysTris 2 is coming.

I only know one definition of the acronym DRM, is this it? ? ?

Please tell me what DRM stands for before I even touch this thing with a twenty-foot bargepole.
