Version
0.3

Info
An online-playable platform shooter in which the goal is to kill the other players with various lethal weapons. Suit up your worm and annihilate your friends with various guns and grenades.
Keep in mind that this is a relatively early version, and there is most definitely some bugs and glitches in there.

*could you host a game?*

I can't, actually! I haven't opened that TCP port. So we'll have to wait until someone who has that port open to come along. ^_^ The guy I am making this with is able to host, and he might be online in a few hours. Sorry about that. :D

Make sure to report any bugs you might find, though. We'll fix any game-breaking ones that might come up and upload a fix ASAP.

What a great game, I am most definitely going to be following this. It has smooth online play, a great and colorful chat system, and unique controls.

I'm currently hosting a game, if anyone wants to try it out.

There is definitely something wrong with the game. When when I started a game (hosting) it suddenly started sucking all of my bandwidth. My download in Firedox went down to 20kb/s, and I couldn't load any pages. I thought it was just my internet connection, but immediately after I closed the game, my internet was stable again.

Really? I'll look into that.

Nope, it was just me waiting for people to connect ^_^

Edit:
Tried replicating the problem, and it happened again. The "End Game" button also freezes the game when I click it.

Strange, the internet I'm on right now is pretty slow (in a restaurant), and even with the game running pages are loading just fine.

I did make a few changes to the game, though. Before it was sending ~38 bytes a second, now it sends about 14 bytes a second. I'll likely put UDP in shortly, as it's strictly TCP at the moment.

For anyone interested, we'll be playing a few rounds in ~40 minutes. Will be Caniac, Mordi and I.

I'll edit my post once we've started, if anyone wants to join in.

Edit: Forgot to edit my post, whoops!

Anyway, small update. There is a bug with the server list (making it so games don't always appear, they do if you refresh a couple times though). Also, we'll try to release version 0.21 with minor bug fixes and optimization to the networking, possibly within the next few days.

I think JoshALB has fixed some bugs and glitches and whatnot about the networking, but I think we need to test some more. We'll probably upload a 0.21 next week. Not sure.

i tried it, as all what you do is good, and i must say it look very good xD
it seems to use scifi engine lol
btw it doesn't work well on my comp:
-display errors on defining external functions, i click abort and i come to game
-i can't aim! i dunno why but it is...
- i use windows 7 but have soem of protection deactivated

keep good work! oh and, PLEASE add a sniper!

It shares obvious similarities with Sci-fi but I didn't use that as a starting point.
I get external function errors too sometimes, but it seems that exiting other programs fixes it. I have found that I have had to close MediaMonkey to be able to load the dlls properly sometimes.
If you get a dll-error your aim won't work. Not sure why. Seems rather illogical.

It's back!

*praise praise hallelujah mozeltoff praise*
;)

Can't wait to sink my teeth in.

[EDIT]
For some reason, I had a constant 30-ish fps, which would fall way down to about 10 whenever I jumped(fell) far. It might be due to having a quad-core processor, since that's just how Game Maker rolls. I recommend adding a processing priority option, to partially fix this problem.

You could go into the task-manager and set affinity and make it use only one or two processors as a temporary solution.

Version 0.21 soon!

We just did a private beta test with 8 people, and well, the game still needs some work around the networking. We'll be releasing v0.21 with a limit to 5 players per game, as that seem to run just fine. Anymore than 5 got really laggy and buggy.

Here are two screenshots we took (and the participants of the beta, thanks again everyone!):

(Screenshot by Josh)

(Screenshot by Normano)

The cowbell (as you see in screenshot 2) is an easter egg that is locked in-game, unless you have a specific map! (A modded playground) Which currently only Mordi and I have. The cowbell will be unlocked in future versions of the game.

Yeah! yu're right, at least after closing others apps i normally started your game and i could aim
i know Sci-fi it's not a staring point lol, but you use its system (or at least some of its features) for all your games, it's as if it was your basic knowledge of platform, which would be very advanced.
the only thing that decepcioned me is that o couldn't play with othe rpeople xD

The game is much more fun with someone to shoot at. :D
Yes, I will probably add a sniper next. Those are always fun. Dangerous to use in platform shooters, though. When you're busy looking through the scope you never know who might walk up behind you.

Will there be an instant-kill(or at least extremely painful) close-up melee attack?

Needs AI!

Or... Y'now... Please who actually play and host games.

Very fluid game, it's polish is awesome. The rocket launcher looks kind of realistic compared to everything else.

I find the aiming to feel very natural, albeit not as precisely accurate. I prefer it this way.

We've decided against AI for the moment. You might see it eventually, but it is very low priority as of right now.

Or... Y'now... Please who actually play and host games.

I'm debating whether or not to make dedicated servers. That'll probably increase the amount of people playing.

P.S. You need to make a single player mode so that you can still play it even when no-ones on.

You can host a game even if you don't port forward, thus you can play without anyone else being able to join. Think of it as single player. :P
