so blillant !
did u vectorise your drawings or were they drawn on comp (graphics tablet)?
those drawings must have taken hours!
i apreciate the effort.
i did a hand drawn logo and then vectorised it and that looks great.

-graphics 4 (the black and white is a nice look but doesn't give a great feeling for a platformer game in which you collect pieces of cake)
-sound 4 (the music was great but really didn't fit for a game like this, felt like i should be crying from the death of a character but instead i'm collecting cake?)
-gameplay 3 (more than just platforms which is nice, but the enemies are very hard to hit with an short umbrella. The jumps are very strict and i find myself repeating sections over and over again until i hit ESC)
-story 2 (common, nothing special)
-interface 3/4 (the controls are okay, i personally am very adjusted to pressing UP for jump in most platformers so that was hard getting used to but okay. The response was bad however, it felt that every key press was late in response. i fell numerous times just because my character didn't jump as soon as i pressed the jump key. The FPS was running fine, my character was just reacting badly which i hardly ever seen in GM games)
-Overall 3 (some good ideas, some bad ideas, it feels to mixed up. as a whole, it's not enjoyable. it's own features weigh it down. This style is better done on a more serious game and not a child's platformer.)

I found the game definately more interesting as it went on. The beginning was rather boring, but once I got to The Well, it did pick up a bit. The Clockwork Garden is definitely one of my favorite areas, and had very nice music. In fact, the music throughout the game was very well done. As far as the contrast between the dark and moody areas with the humorous storyline, I kind of like it. It is strange, but it works well. The greyscale style is striking, though it can get slightly monotonous at times. Overall, this is a very well-made game, and I enjoyed it.
By the way, in version 1.2, you left developer mode on. Pressing Escape brings up a standard Game Maker "Really Quit?" text box instead of pausing the game, forcing me to pause the game with my gamepad instead; other buttons similarly bring up various other developer debugging tools. Kind of cool to see the inner workings, but I would recommend turning it off to increase the security and protect your resources...

Everything in the game (except for some graphical elements like lighting effects) is hand-drawn on paper, with black fineliner and HB/B/3B/9B pencil. They're not vectorised, just scanned and cleaned up (lots) using brightness/contrast balance and some manual editing. It certainly did take a while, but I'm not sure pixelling would have been any quicker.did u vectorise your drawings or were they drawn on comp (graphics tablet)?
those drawings must have taken hours!
Can you remember when it crashed, and what you were doing? Any error messages?Played it, got to the unicycle part, and then it crashed :x It was a great game. I have windows 7.
We're working on an update which should improve the flow of the cake-collecting and make it more worthwhile, although really the cakes themselves are one big easter egg, as there's really nothing to do with them. If you've finished the main story, you might see why...I, for one, quite enjoyed playing this. I only have about 82 cakes right now, but I don't have much motivation to find the rest of them, except to say I have found 100% of them. That is about the one major flaw I can point out in this game.
...
By the way, in version 1.2, you left developer mode on.
I remember that - we fixed it on the direct dowload but couldn't upload the fix to YoYo. Thanks for pointing it out, it's fixed now. Someone will get fired for that...

I didn't have the patience to finish this game.
But this seems to appeal to a lot of other people, so I guess it's just me.
Best of luck to you, I hope your next game is a bit smaller and less spooky.

Story: 9.5 / 10
The story was funny, the ending caught me off guard, I like the moral, and there seemed to be about the right amount of cut-scenes. The only thing I did not like, is when the text is printing out character by character, it will get halfway through a word, reach the end of the box, and jump to the next line. When you are reading it, this seems a little abrupt, but not game stopping.
Graphics: 10 / 10
The graphics seemed very professionally made, and there was a consistent feel from the graphics throughout the game. I didn't like how slow the hive logo intro played on my computer, but this is the graphics card in my computer, not your game that is the problem.
Audio: 9.0 / 10
I don't usually turn on the sound on my computer, so I didn't always listen to the music, but I liked all the music I heard, and the ambiance sounds seemed to be well done. The only thing I did not like about the music, was it seemed to be quite repetitive at times, which got a little annoying. This is the only thing that is preventing you from getting a 10/10. Besides this little fact, the music fit the particular area perfectly. My favorite music was the Clockwork Garden soundtrack.
Gameplay: 8.5 / 10
The gameplay was mostly bug-free and very well designed. But there was still bugs. There was several jumping bugs, like wall jumping, and some hanging bugs. These were mostly that you press the jump key, but he wouldn't jump, and then he would fall from waiting too long. Another thing that was intentional, but seemed to be a bug, was in the Clockwork Garden, when you are activating the four platforms at the top of the tower, I had activated all four switches, and I saw all four platforms down, but when I went to the tower, the top one had stood itself back up! I thought this was a variable getting switched back off, and so I didn't play for a while. When I played the game again, I found the other switch you had to spin, and then race the ball of electricity to the platform. This seemed to be something that could be changed, so it would seem easier to play. Perhaps the jumping bugs are fixable, or maybe they are not, but I just wanted to bring these to your attention. But for the most part, the game was easy to play, and I want to congratulate you on a job well done!!
Interface: 8.5 / 10
I liked the screen to choose your setting a whether you wanted to start a new game, or continue a saved game. The idea of using the left and right keys to choose which setting was a easy to use, intuitive way, to do this. I also like how your changes were reflected immediately, without needing to go back to the game.
There were only two things I did not like about the interface. One was how you exit the game. From in-game, you had to hit the esc key, then hit the down key, select quit, choose yes, then do the same thing from the menu! This seemed like overkill, and took a long time to just exit the game. Taking out one of these confirmations would fix this problem a lot.
The other thing I did not like about the interface, was you had to hit the esc key to bring up the menu, rather than the space bar, or another key. The controls are not customizable, but giving more than one option for the menu would give your game just a little more polish, if that is possible
Overall: 9.1 / 10
I think there is some things that could be changed, or maybe I just don't understand how you designed them, but you still did a wonderful job, and I don't think I will ever delete Umbrella Adventure, because the good things always outdo the bad things.
Good Job Srephog!

I have an idea about the exclamation point, that is on the little spit of land, the right side of the map. I noticed that when you spin-in-the-air, the lamp seems to swing faster. Could this mean something? If anybody knows, I would like to know.
Srehpog, I have been stuck here for a long time, and I would like to get 100%, could you help out? Please?
Thanks,
Alexw.
