madnessMADNESSmadness is a game created for Game Jolt's third contest, with the theme "Minimal". I went for minimalist graphics.

In the game, you're a small silhouette man attempting to run away from a big red moving wall, which increases in speed as you play. You have to run and jump your way through a spikey looping level, while avoiding being crushed by said wall.

One problem though. It looked crap. So now the level is a bit weird. Instead of walls moving normally, from left to right, they rotate clockwise around a circle, both appearing and disappearing at the bottom while you're at the top. It adds a teensy bit extra challenge while keeping the graphics both minimalist and, well, not crap.

Also includes online highscores by the friendly Canadianhood UnknownGamer. Highscore site

By looking at your post, it looks like you added the circular feature thing at the end. Well, it's a great concept. Nice job.

Hope to beat you in the contest, but that's one cool little game you got there :)

Hmm, I must say, having played your previous games, this one really didn't wow me like your others. Its pretty darn simplistic and not too much fun. I hate to sound harsh, but you are capable of so much more polish and quality gameplay. And does the level actually repeat itself over and over? Good job nonetheless.

he was probably going for the "minimal", seeing he entered contest with "minimal" as theme.
awesome game. i'm pretty sure you'll get the 1st place from what i've seen in the compo so far :)

very good game.

Doubt it from what I've seen now. :)

Still, was fun to make. Thanks for the feedback, everyone :) I plan on adding to the idea ironing out the faults it has at the moment, and without the need to keep the experience "minimal".

It's so addicting, but like you said, it may be that the circle platforms hypnotizes the player. :)

Brilliant, beutifully done. The rotating world deffinently works well with the game. It adds something funky to a generally simple concept (keep running away)
I like the verses at the beginning and when you die, it reminded me somewhat of portal. I would have laughed out loud if i wasn't at school!

10/10 for me. Great game.

Thanks for all your replies! :)

mMm was featured on YYG yesterday, which has resulted in (at the time of posting) about 13 hours' worth of playtime in submitted scores. There's a counter on the site displaying the total.

Excellent, I love it, I love everything about it except for the jumping sound whcih is way too high pitched an obnoxious and ultimately the only reason I stopped playing. Some may call it shallow, though I submit that I mearly needed an excuse to just STOP PLAYING. Great job

This game is the perfect time waster

I found it over at Yoyogames and I loved it. It is pretty difficult but that's what makes it so fun. I'd suggest adding local highscores, it's fun competing against myself and it was disappointing after submitting my score and losing it from the menu. Anyways great game. I downloaded it and will be playing it much more.

Cheers,
Awoken

EDIT: Good luck in the contest!

Didn't like the game to much. For me, it's to simple. Though i have been known to play Arcade like games. I don't usually prefer them unless it's extremely fun.
This however isn't. I played it once and that was about it. The looping level i think is what killed it for me. Just boring to run through the same things, no variety at all. Only thing that gets challenging is the wall that starts to move a little to fast.
In most arcade games, things start to change a bit. Like even old space shooters, sometimes the colors change representing that your gaining progress, or they throw in new enemies or obstacles.
But this really is minimal isn't it? I'm sorry to say i like my games full-length. I'm into more complete games, the have a defined start and finish. So this just isn't my style.

However i'd rate it a 3/5 for being pretty professional at the least.
haven't seen the other games at the contest yet, maybe i'll check those out too.

...I hate you. Your game has brought me hours of anger. And what is worse is that I'm sure it will bring me many more - I can't stop playing :) . And every single time I get my name on that highscore board, it only lasts for half an hour at most until 30 better highscores push it off.

Seriously. You are cruel. Go hang out with that dude who made the "punishment" games.
