![]() Battle Grounds: New Prototype! Download: Battle Grounds Prototype V0.4 Game Maker Version:GM 7 light Overview Some of you may be aware that I released a very early stage prototype earlier this year. Now I have made some improvements and have added some cool little features to better simulate what Battle Grounds will be like. This new version is essentially a sand box where you can place both Arkknod and Eremah units at free will. None of the graphics are final, though I did spend a little time on the H.U.D.(heads up display) graphics. Updates in V0.4 -Fixed unit placement and deleting -Changed building and unit graphics -Changed background to parylax layers or stars -Added better explosion animations. (currently these look terrible because game make 7 does not support alpha channels) -Added music by The_Flaming_Duck. (Though, this is not the final game music) Screen Shots ![]() [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] Game Play The idea behind Battle Grounds is that you set up the battle and your offensive/defensive position and then watch what happens without being able to give any commands to your units once the battle starts. This can lead to some extremely interesting game play and success requires foresight and planning. I hope you have fun with the current version and feel free to make suggestions! Please remember that the graphics aren't final, though suggestions are welcome. Visit the official project page for more details on game play. Controls So how do you drive this thing? There are a couple major things that I need to go over. First, you can move your view around by placing your cursor very near the edge of the screen. If you want to quit, use the Escape key. If you want to place a unit, left click on the respective unit button, then left click where you would like to place that unit. Hold shift to place multiple units in a row, and right click to cancel the unit placement. If you would like to delete a unit that you have placed, right click on that unit. To start the battle, hit the "Begin" button and to stop the battle, hit the "quit" button.(this will not quit the game!) During the battle, you cannot control the units, they are autonomously piloted. When the room restarts, the old unit configuration is loaded. To reset this configuration and start again from scratch, hit the reset button, which has a recycling symbol on it. This post has been edited by mr glasses: Dec 30 2009, 11:25 PM |

:bump:
I just released v0.4. See the edited post above for more details. I'd like to emphasize that the explosions and projectiles look terrible because Game Maker 7 does not support alpha channles. (and I'm making this in GM7 light) When GM8 comes out, I will be able to use nice looking transparency for all the images. (units, explosions, the heads up display, etc) Any suggestions? P.S. I'm sorry about the chees-eink site being down. It is back online but I don't have a restore file yet. Hopefully it will be back to the way it was soon.
