Hi fellow gamemakers :(
I've just posted the first trailer of 'Pirate Boat Voyage', and a playable demo of a title under development over at RoflGames.com

Demo: "Pirate Boat Voyage"(yoyogames)
Trailer: "Pirate Boat Voyage"(youtube)

Posted Image

Demo Controls
- Use your mouse to aim cannon.
- Shoot holding 'Space' or 'Left-Mouse Button'. Remember! Cannonballs are heavy and are affected by gravity, 100% Accuracy is not guaranteed.

The Cannon is turned golden when the player picks up Golden Treasures.
- Use Golden Cannon with 'Right-Mouse Button', this unleashes an area-attack.

- Tips: Hitting areas where the Squid's arm is not hurt, delivers double damage to his arm.

The game revolves around a pirate and his crew, which starts out in the litte boat you see in the trailer. I've choosen to call the Captain, "Capt'n Wlinch"

GAME DEVELOPMENT
Towards the end of the game, I've been planning to increase the size of the ship, to a REAL pirate's dream ;) Also, I'm planning to add slots for more cannons aboard the ship, additional crew members with different abilites and stories.

The plan is to start the player out with a very small jolly boat, with no flag and no crew. The player will have to make his way from island to island in a tropical part of the world like Carribean(original? No, not much), in hunt for a bigger crew and a bigger boat/ship, and eventually create a custom flag, maybe from a .bmp file editor(or a some predefined sprites).

STORY / NARRATIVE
Most of my games on Roflgames have been lacking emphasis on story, and this time around I want each character/member of the crew to have a relatively deep back-story. I want to tell the story through dialogue and cutscenes.

As you can see from the trailer, I've added one enemy this far, the 'Mighty Squid', and I'm sketching up more enemies and challanges as I go.

If you've got any suggestions or feedback on the idea or the progress thus far, post it down ;)

- Update Changes -
+ Automatic Shooting has been added, hold space or mouse-button to shoot(this was added to reduce tapping amount)

*I'll keep this post updated*

Nice job man, really like your water physics and everything floating upon it.

As said before you need a demo else this is getting closed.

looks pretty excellent. I'd like to see cannonballs with extra abilities done with right click, like exploding, or homing, or breaking into smaller cannonballs. then that golden cannon move would shoot with space.

i especially like the map idea and upgradeable ship. Areas inaccessible to the big boat would be cool if you could carry a dingy along, like rivers on islands. Then you'd have to select only your best items and crew to take along.

And it would not be satisfying to fight all those tentacles and not fight the source of them!

Is it possible to kill that thing? I just kept dying. Best score: 27000

This was really fun, and the engine seems to work well. I found myself tapping the left click as fast as I could in the hopes that a golden chest would come and save me. xD Perhaps something to prevent it being a "how fast can you tap a button" game? Still; fun game. :(

I'm hard at work making an octopus face animation ;) Good idea with the cannonballs, I'll definelty take these suggestions into consideration.
If the engine can handle it on my own computer, I'll make the ship become as large as I possibly can. It would be cool to have a 'Black Pearl' or a 'Flying Dutchman' crammed in there:)

Since this is just a demo of the engine, the Mighty Squid cannot be killed, it's sadly just for show ;)

I'm sore on my tapping finger myself, and I'm considering making the cannons automatic, or eventually, add a skill that makes the cannon automatic. Even if this is not a very realistic way of shooting a cannon, it saves the player's fingers :(
