They are not directly supporting linux at this time.

Some users have been able to get it to work using various tweaks, but YoYo isn't creating or supporting a linux version at the moment.

For some reason I doubt the legitimacy of that claim @ Caniac.

But it does seems like YoYo is turning away from Linux, nonetheless. It's a shame, imo, since many, many people use it as a prime OS. And since Ubuntu's rise, it's became ever more popular. The fact its' free, and has functionality on a similar level to Mac OS X and Windows is enough on it's own, but then you throw in things that Mac OS X and Windows don't even have.

read through My Tweets (@DarthCaniac), and read through Sandy Duncan's tweets (@ZanderDuYoyo), and you will find both of those tweets.

Let me rephrase that, with major changes and hacks, not tweaks :skull:

That would be great if they did that. I happen to be a Linux user too. :skull:

I cannot link you. By tweaks I meant things like running WINE, or having hacked/modded forms of linux besides your standard distro that allow you to run software built for Max/Windows which linux otherwise couldn't.

Wine doesn't run Game Maker correctly. Some of the game maker games don't start. :skull:

Some GM games can run perfectly on linux using wine (hint hint: mine) and it isn't that hard to do (at least, it ran perfectly on the couple of linux computers we tested).

Simply follow this tutorial: http://gmc.yoyogames...howtopic=418726

I don't see why people can't just try and live with doing this instead until linux support *eventually* surfaces.

i've searched a bit and came upon only little evidence that there was going to be a port of GM to Linux(after macs of course) and was wondering if there was anything new on the subject. i primarily use Linux on my laptop, which is good for a few things. taking minutes at meatings, blasting techno, and using the word processor. me and a friend used to have a game in development and i wanted to get back into making said game, but didn't want to fork money out to micro$oft just to use GM on my laptop.

any new news on GM for us Linux boys?

No official news...
*but*
the fact that GMMac has been in development for so long now & was recently "put on hold" because the programmer dropped out bodes very badly for the possibility of a Linux version.

Even if a Linux version is on the table & eventually coming, I`d say the best you could hope for would be a 2 year+ wait.

As far as I knew, a Linux version was possible, but never even on the cards. Plus, as dadio said, GM for Mac's release has been cancelled until GM9, so I doubt we will see a Linux version until any later than that.

Other than these topics that keep springing up? No. :)

I merged this latest topic with the previous one. No reason for multiple topics about an effort that isn't underway.

GM7 already works under Linux, or course ONLY emulated with Wine and such stuff.

We own a Linux root server, and we can run GM exes on it.

They handle our global serverlist for our multiplayergames. Works perfectly....

Some games, notably those using ogg for sound support, work flawlessly through Wine with a few small adjustments. Unfortunately I can't say the same for GameMaker itself.

For the games, I am pretty sure its against the EULA to do this, but has someone tried making a 3rd party runner? In my eyes if you knew how gm worked, then it would be completely possible just parsing the code as you normally would. Hm...
