The graphics and font are a tad hard on the eyes; The gradient at the bottom is annoying and very "pixelated" to me, and there isn't a HUD to speak of. The attacks were all very similar and you couldn't really change anything about them (for example holding Up to do some variation of the attack, or pressing the attack several times in a row to do a "Combo"), not to mention you could move during any of them -- I had some trouble aiming the gun for some reason, too. The controls need much work -- I assume they'll be customizable later on -- since Arrow Keys, Alt, and Space Bar isn't exactly easy to use (why would my Right Hand control movement, anyway?). I didn't seem to be capable of taking any sort of damage.
Also, being honest here, I am no fan of the main character's design. In fact it was the reason why I had never played the other game you had made, her look just... doesn't appeal, basically. It's not something I'd like to say the reason of on the GMC, although I'm sure you can guess why.
Sorry if you were looking for something more happy and pro-game for your first response to this topic. But don't get me wrong, I'd like to see how this turns out (especially since this has levels, and I love level-grinding); It's just obviously a WIP. Nothing wrong with that.
Good luck.
Firstly thanks for trying my game.
1. The graphics and font are a tad hard on the eyes.
The game is designed in a classic style [I do however agree with you on the font, I plan to change that]
2. The gradient at the bottom is annoying and very "pixelated" to me.
I'm actually interested in other people's opinion on this, as i reduced the gradient used for the fog from 64 levels to 16 to get that specific effect.3. and there isn't a HUD to speak of.
The item and HUD menu's are in the works.4. The attacks were all very similar and you couldn't really change anything about them (for example holding Up to do some variation of the attack, or pressing the attack several times in a row to do a "Combo")
Each attack has a completely different animation [with exception to the hammer which reuses the overhead sword attack frames] Some weapons feature multiple hits like the rapier, but It's unlikely that the game will feature combos, as I plan to have a variety of weapons available to choose from each with unique and/or blended sprites.[but you never know i might add a few simple combos]
5. I had some trouble aiming the gun for some reason, too.
The gun uses an instant bullet scheme, but i decided to make the bullets visible as some guns in the game will have elemental shots which would be lost on instant bullets. The gun currently shoots at about 64 pixels in front of the character's eye. The next demo will have contra style shots.
6. The controls need much work -- I assume they'll be customizable later on -- since Arrow Keys, Alt, and Space Bar isn't exactly easy to use,
You obviously didnt play the first part, the controls are fully customizable but i haven't pulled over those scripts yet.7. (why would my Right Hand control movement, anyway?).
I'm a lefty what do right handers typically use?
8. I didn't seem to be capable of taking any sort of damage.
The player stats and damage calculations need more work before they're implemented. I cant use the old damage scripts from the first part, because they're not tied to levels.
8. Also, being honest here, I am no fan of the main character's design. In fact it was the reason why I had never played the other game you had made, her look just... doesn't appeal, basically. It's not something I'd like to say the reason of on the GMC, although I'm sure you can guess why.
Well you'd be hard pressed to find [at least on the GMC] sprites which are as well designed and animated as the ones I've made for this project. As for the specifics of the design. I wanted to have a female lead who's front running feature was more than tits and skin tight clothing. Thats not to say you dont' have a right to not like it. But at least make suggest what you would change?

What I look for is honest feedback, not everyone will like what you do, you gotta have a tough skin. The only thing I think you should be sorry about is apologizing for your position in the first place.
Good luck.
Thanks.
Also you should really play the first part before judging this one as many of the polished features [character edits, control edit, etc.] will make their way over into this segment of the game.
