On the other hand: They could use a filter on the user titles to sift out swear words and things like "Moderator" and "Admin", and then let us have control over it. That would pretty much get rid of whatever issues could arise from it, I think.

But now the admins stoped. I think that they should add that feature back in, the admins/mods would have more work though, because they would have to "moderate" the custom titles(like if a member had an offensive title, they would either get banned, or get their title changed to something like "No Offensive Titles").
They could always give a few people they trust the ability to change other peoples titles, to take the workload off them, but then again that seems likely to end in everyone having some derogatory below their avatar. However it's not a very important element of the user info. You have a signature, an avatar and a username (however the username is pretty much set in stone, I still haven't been able to get mine changed, and i've tried many times the past few years) you also have a few other things such as location and interests. This isn't a social networking website, you don't need to be able to customize everything. Next thing you'll be asking to customize the background colour of your posts.
It only takes a click of "view all posts by this member" to read everything a particular member has written and therefore get a feel for what kind and quality of member they are.
Fortunately, I don't care if you're an expert on something, or if you once acted a complete idiot and ruined your reputation, or if you have thousands of posts on the GMC, or if you have a title that claims that you are the most experienced user on the GMC, or if you have one of those silly little signatures that gives you a star rating in some unofficial and irrelevant quiz, or... you get the idea. I care about what you write in the topics I read -- the content of your posts. And generally, most of you guys have some very good things to say (with an occasional sprinkling of idiot. I do that time to time, though, so I don't hate anyone for it). That's why I still read this forum (and on occasion contribute).

Then they would get overwhelmed and quit doing it too, wouldn't they? I mean the actual admin staff thought it was too much work, yet the thousands of posts they have to preview a week is strangely not. They could always give a few people they trust the ability to change other peoples titles
I guess there are just way more moderators than admins?
*looks at post count*...But with others, it just means they have too much free time to spend on the GMC.
*looks at what was put in "interests" place on profile*...
I need a life.

Whats wrong with that!? If you are for example not married, you still have a life. Exactly the same with having lots of posts on the GMC.But with others, it just means they have too much free time to spend on the GMC.

Unless, of course, people start spamming and down-rating for no reason, or making multiple accounts to rate upwards.Being a system of making the poster see what's good and wrong in his posts can be a good thing.

And any duplicates would have to be sent to an admin to be checked(or mod)

Why did you blot out the title you wanted? If your request had been granted, everyone would be reading it right now.And here's the proof!:
I guess these custom titles mean a lot to some members. So I'll open up a topic later where members can request titles for some fixed period of time. But only in the topic -- no PMs. (can't afford to have my inbox filled.)
This will allow members to get their custom titles.

I was wondering that myself. If I remember correctly there was a limit of (12?) characters for titles so the the page wasn't stretched. I thought perhaps the title was rejected because it was too long, but there's no way to be sure with it blotted out...Why did you blot out the title you wanted? If your request had been granted, everyone would be reading it right now.
Round of applause for KC LCSo I'll open up a topic later where members can request titles for some fixed period of time.
If you don't want to get too much work, pin the topic then no one will read it

Ah, but then she will get a boatload of PMs complaining about the missing topic, you promised me this, you promised me that. It's a lose lose situation.
Either way, I think your doing the right thing KC LC. Though, you could have just as easily stripped everyone else of their custom titles, and then they would have nothing to beg for.

Later I didn't like that title anymore ^^. I think I've also sent another PM with another title. The title was "Game Maker Programmer", but that sounds like I would be somebody who programs GMWhy did you blot out the title you wanted? If your request had been granted, everyone would be reading it right now.And here's the proof!:
Yes? I didn't know of any limitIf I remember correctly there was a limit of (12?) characters for titles [...]

Yet you felt the need to complain here because it wasn't given to you? Seems like you should leave well enough alone.Later I didn't like that title anymore ^^.
So Chronic got a 2nd request from you before he had a chance to grant the 1st one? That's probably why he ignored you. That's certainly what I would have done.I think I've also sent another PM with another title.

Anyways... I applied for a custom title thing a few months before Chronic decided to stop... wonder what happened to it... lol.
So did I. Ended up getting one through a competition he held (when's the next one, Chronic?).
So I'll open up a topic later where members can request titles for some fixed period of time.
Aww, there goes the prestiege

No. I was waiting and waiting. Days, weeks, I think maybe even months before sending the second PM.So Chronic got a 2nd request from you before he had a chance to grant the 1st one? That's probably why he ignored you. That's certainly what I would have done.I think I've also sent another PM with another title.

I've never requested a user title. Though both PM's I sent to Chronic, I never got a response. The second one was after the member title deadline, but it was regarding my username, not a title. Couple months with no response and I PM'ed KC LC, she took care of it for me.
