HI, this is a fun game. I'm very familiar with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup. Been playing it for a few years now. :GM132:

One feature I would love to have added is the ability to save your progress. I don't usually have enough time to sit down and try to beat the game at one sitting. Even with DCSS I have only about 15-20 minutes at a given time. I do understand about preventing cheating with an online scoring system. It is just a suggestion.

Are there any benefits to selecting certain class/race combos? DwPal is the only class I played yet.

This genre is one of my favorite. I just downloaded GameMaker again to see if I could create a rogue-like for it. It's nice to see that it is possible. Now I have something to aspire to. :) :)

Looking forward to new versions.

EDIT: It would be great to be able to turn off the music while leaving the rest of the sounds. Thanks :)

EDIT: Another suggestion as I continue to play. A larger game screen with a minimap, or the ability to explore the screen would help in planning next moves.

I'm glad you enjoyed! There's autosave between each dungeon in casual mode if you didn't notice :). A class and a race affect on your starting stat points. Different races have different special ability, for example a vampire drains life in close combat and an angel knows which potion is bad or good for you.

Great fun, I really enjoyed it. However, I'm sad to say I got a gamebreaking bug :P

I was playing Casual mode, and I was on level 3. The first enemy I reached I killed, but one it was dead I couldn't move nor use anything from the inventory. I reloaded the save, and I was at the staircase at the end of level 2, except the game thought it was level three. I went down the stairs and it became level 4, and I killed an enemy and the character couldn't move etc etc. So, in essence, everytime I load my save the level is out of whack by one (meaning if I keep loading the level will just get higher and higher), and additionally I can only kill one enemy before the game fails.

That said, I really enjoyed the concept and excecution. Well done!

Oops! :)

The game adds +1 to dungeon level and THEN saves it. Fixed asap.

EDIT: Done.

Hello, just completely finished to game, ownd demigod, etc. Played as troll priest, have a few questions:

When i do melee my mana is drained by rage, what i got from it?
At near end of the game i gained imba equip, amulet +50 int/dex, same bonus stave. All is ok with item bonus system?
Sometimes, i'm gaining invisibility, why?

Sry for a bad english.

A troll drains mana for +30% melee damage bonus so trolls are good at melee combat. :) There is a small chance to get imba gear in this game, and the chances get higher and higher everytime you complete a dungeon level. Magic staffs may have special powers and that's why you had invisibility.

Thanks for playing this game!

Hi.
Just wanted to say that the game is awesome. I've a long history of playing roguelikes but your game rocks. It seems very small and simple but it's very funny and one can't stop playing.
I love that you added casual gameplay with auto-save...very good.

Any chance you will share the source-code so others can make nice GM-roguelikes also?

God bless!

I just downloaded with no problem, so it should be fine now. I'm glad there was some compromise with the ranged attacks, a shortcut button is much easier than clicking the inventory each time, so thank you much for that! One thing I noticed about it is if you push the shortcut key (used the bow, not sure about 'z') you will remain ready until the mouse is clicked. What I mean is you can walk around, pick stuff up, etc. until you shoot or click inventory. Not that it makes much difference since it still uses a turn either way, just something I noticed.

Decreases is misspelled in the tutorial. (sorry  )

Nice update otherwise, I like the addition of races. A suggestion I would make, though I assume you have already thought about it, is a random shop/merchant or maybe trader. Maybe another adventurer who would like to swap items with you? I also wondered if there are actual cursed items in the game? I believe the only detrimental things I've seen are potions or scrolls. Thanks again for the update, I'm glad to see you are still working on this!

Broken? At the moment the link is working.

Thanks for a comment. I just had no reason to block other actions when using ranged attack so that's not really a bug. There were cursed amulets in the game but I took them off because they made some people frustrated, and I wanted to keep the game fun instead of uber realistic dungeon crawling game to attract more people.

Merchants are good idea but then I have to make chests and gold coin drops to the game. It isn't really hard to implement but it consumes a lot of time.

Hey, I downloaded the new version. Adding races into the game is really cool. The angel looks awesomely ridiculous.

Also when the game ran the first time Windows asked if I wanted to allow it to run some file. (Edit: The file was ffdshow audio encoder. You might want to change how you play our audio so that it doesn't ask everybody this.)

The background music uses multimedia player (sound properties->kind: use multimedia player) as it does in previous versions. Maybe the game asks what player you want to use to play the background music. Have you installed/uninstalled anything regarding to music players or audio codecs recently?

BTW I don't get that message when I run the game.

I second that...this IS the best adventure/rpg around!

Btw, no chance you'll share the sourcecode?

Hello again, Telchar. I've completed the game yet again. ^^

When I played through it as an angel, I came across another bug. When you are striken with poison, it says the angel is immune to poison, yet he still becomes poisoned.

Also, when I submitted my score to the online list (I made it to #1 again, by the way ^^), it said I was killed by a "ghoul," yet I completed the game without dying (of course).

I'd write more, but I'm just about to leave. Once again, good job on making such a great game. ^^

Strange... Only race that should be immune to poison is a wraith. ;) I check that later.

EDIT:

"Killed by" bug is fixed in 1.20.3 version. Unfortunately file size increased because gm8 won't play mp3 files.

Hi people. This game is amazing because runs in any computer, and satisfy any desire of the explorers and item collectors. I love it.
I have a question: Why you do not create an "official website" for the game? It deserves it.

A hug!

I'm running this in Vista 64 bit and when I get to the part where I can upload my score, the game starts throwing exceptions and crashes. See here:

If I pick ignore, I start getting messages like this:

Posted Image

The only option is abort, which just halts the game entirely. I've tried running in XP SP 2 compatibility mode but the same thing happens.

On an unrelated note, I love the game and I'd also really like to see shops and such as well.

Thanks!

The new highscore system doesn't seems to work with GM8. I try to fix it or get a new one.

EDIT: http://www.flowarcade.com/ site is currently down and that's why highscores are not available at the moment.

*hug* The game uses hundreds of objects at the same time but I used really rough deactivation to prevent any possible lag. I could make a official website for the game but I'm too lazy to improve it and balance everything.

Any chance there will be a Trapdoor Below 2? I actually play this game sometimes on the week nights whenever I'm bored for a few minutes. I love rogue-likes.
