Maybe they can`t (& by "they" I mean Mark).
If Mark thinks it "might" cause a file change that renders current GM8 games useless, then it`s a no go naturally.
but if Mark thinks it *won`t* require a file change then it`s best to release (imo).
He`s the only one close enough to the code to make that call.

My only point there is; we`ve waited long enough already & most people really want to be able to use GM8 over the coming holidays - to delay GM8 for another few months purely because of 1 non-functioning feature is... not good (imo).

He still has another good month to make that call.
Or better yet, to solve the problem.

Hopefully it`ll be solved & we won`t have to worry smile.gif

I read one of these may become the new logo:
http://gamemakerblog.com/2009/11/13/which-...-do-you-prefer/
In which case I will be disgusted. mad.gif
Please judges, if you read this – don’t let any of those become official. Please. The old logo is better than any of those.

Yup, and the fact that he's releasing another RC instead of a final suggests he's made the call. You don't like it, thus more of your endless complaining.

Oh, so there's only 1 non-functioning feature? And where did you get this information from.

It's a Release Candidate. Do you know what a release candidate is? They believe it's close to being ready, but need final testing to ensure it actually it is ready. Cripes look at the last Release Candidate, there were lots of problems.

Why is it so hard for you to understand that maybe, they just DON'T KNOW ACCURATELY ENOUGH, when it will be ready to be released? Why don't you go back and read the latest glog responses. Pay attention to all the criticism towards Sandy regarding missed deadlines.

Now, think real hard there Sparky. Do you think with all the criticism he has taken about setting time-frames, he will be more or less reluctant to give firm time frames?

Lol smile.gif

Another RC instead of final doesn`t mean he`s made the call on that yet - he still has another month to either fix it or make that call in time for a Christmas release.

There is only that 1 feature missing/problematic according to all info available - there may of course still be some very minor bugs - that`s inevitable.
Naturally if someone notices that the sprite editor has suddenly stopped working in the Release or a million new bugs pop out of nowhere, then that`s another story -
but all current info tells me that export/import features (+ new reg system) are all that`s holding GM8 back now (from a code standpoint).

Please note that my main problem/complaint/whine about YoYo is simply...
*lack of info & reliable updates on what is actually happening*
that`s all.
I would be concerned if say Sandy/YoYo knew for a fact that for reasons other than coding, GM8 release is going to be held back. if that is the case, then I think we should be informed asap.

(Also, on a personal note, I would much prefer a GM8 now without export/import - rather than a GM8 in 6 months with export/import. But only (obviously) if there isn`t a file change expected.)

Silence for weeks on end is a bad thing.

That`s all I have to say, have a nice day! smile.gif

I think the auto-completion would be a little better if it was mapped to TAB (or another key) instead of Enter. Then you'd have the freedom to go to a new line without having to do so quickly before the auto-completion appears.

I`d guess/hope there`ll be no more changes/additions at this stage - just bugfixing.

On that point - anyone found any bugs in this release?

(Kinda funny how the Logo has captured everyone`s attention & no-one seems to care much about this release!) smile.gif

Just an update on the glog:
QUOTE
Nov, 2009

I’ve read too many comments in various places on and off the website about price increases for GM8. I don’t know why, but it looks as though someone is spreading a malicious rumour. Any talk of a price increase for GM8 are ABSOLUTE RUBBISH. THE PRICE OF GAME MAKER 8 WILL BE $25, which is the same as GM7.

I’m less certain about the launch date. Mark has recently released the second release candidate so this means we’re very close to having a final product.

The main thing we have to do now is to get the updates finished to the website. We are currently testing the first phase of this which is a major upgrade to the website infrastructure.

The first of these is to update the architecture of the site. Since we launched the site almost 3 years ago the Ruby on Rails framework (more info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_on_Rails) which we rely on has moved along significantly. Unfortunately we didn’t keep pace with the incremental changes published for Rails and have left ourselves a big task to catch up. We’ve now done this, but it has effectively meant an almost complete review of the website with almost every page requiring some changes. When we release this update the site won’t look any different, but it should get rid of most of the performance bottlenecks we experience, particularly at weekends when the site is busiest.

Second thing we need to do is to finish the work we’ve been doing to create a distribution system to replace Softrwap. I know some of you have experienced difficulties with the way Softwrap’s DRM works and others just hate the idea of having a DRM at all. There are even some of you who have had no issues and don’t care about DRMs but hate Softwrap because it’s been fashionable to do so !!

What most of you don’t see is Softrwap provide us with a decent bunch of tools to correct most of the (very few) issues quickly and most importantly they provide YOU with a reasonable process for buying Game Maker. SO…it is taking a fair bit of time for us to rewrite some of this functionality and especially to test it to make sure it works properly from Day 1. This has taken a lot longer than we would have liked and today I simply don’t know when this will be finished. As soon as we know a date we’ll tell you and THAT will also mean the date when we can “Launch” Game Maker 8 properly. Worth noting that the new Beta expires end of December….so it would be nice not to have a third Release Candidate just because of this !!!

We appreciate your patience.

Well nothing really special, only 1 thing:
Instead of even more "anti softwrap" (yes from the previous glog posts they kind of said that softwrap was a "mistake", suddenly they make a large turn and explain the good parts (and the bad parts about us, hating softwrap for no reason).

Also it seems they are still aiming for the release to be at the end of december (but also with the wording it made me feel this is a hard-to-reach deadline). - So let's hope we have gm8 final before next year smile.gif.
