Too bad all the fake 3D engines are use pro. I think mostly people without it want to!(that's just me thought.)


Just get pro, how hard could it be?...

Too bad it won't work for lite though, because most people who want fake 3d use lite.

Just remove the pro stuff. the core concept does not depend on any pro features

To make it work with GM Lite, just remove or comment out the Create Event in obj_Tree and make all tree sprites transparent...

Have you taken a look at icuurd's edit of your tree thing? i'd see what you can do to use those leafy sprites, as they make every thing look really good. it was enough to make me want to make a tree-based game xD

As you already know, there's a download link on that post you linked to. And I've downloaded that engine and lokked at it and the fake 3D trees was more complicated than they have to, so I made this engine (with the sprites from that RPG Engine) to show people how simple it is to make this thing. So I didn't steal the idea, I just made it simplier, and I didn't steal the sprites either as I gave proper credit for them in the first post...

Well, I didn't actually improve HIS engine as I only used 3 sprites from it and did the coding from scratch myself. And no, I didn't ask for permission to use the 3 sprites, but I atleast gave proper credit which not many on this forum would do...

Oh boo hoo. He did not improve the engine, it's not even an egine, it's perspective code and layered drawing, he's not even using the original code for the perspective... Look at the other engine... The only thing the code has in common is lengthdir.

I'm glad he emulated the function from the original, the code in there; you can't even grab given it's in a dll for some weird reason.

And layered drawing is not something you can call an original idea. it's been around some.

It's not the first time someone emulates a feature and simplifies if for all to use.


Though using the same sprites, if without permission AND the original sprites are the other engine's SPECIFIC sprites (owned by the creator of that engine) I would say, remove them and use other ones.

Accusations aside, that other engine is very cool.

Well done! but you should turn of the drawing if the tree is outside view, it can get slow when i add many trees

hey, glad to see someone stole my sprites again :)
I don't mind you using them, they're old news and my rpg engine is dead meat. go ahead, use them all you want.

however, I really do hate finding my sprites pop up in random places. next time, please at least let me know you're using them...
if you hadn't given credit, I probably would have been infuriated as I have been before.

Any ideas on how to make this engine compatible with GM8? The sprites get all messed up. Looks nothing like the trees you see when using GM7.

(I'm aware of the 1 year bump. But I've used this engine in the past and I need it again, this time with GM8.)
