Mario + Sonic at the Olympics was hyped? I thought that game was terrible.

If anything today's Final Fantasies are a lot more overhyped, there's a big difference between games now and back then in hype.

How are they arrogant? It seems to me that you are the arrogant one. I think that Final Fantasy VII is the best game ever made. It's definitely not the most technically advanced game if you compare it to the games released nowadays, but that doesn't make it a bad game by any means. I actually started playing FFVII again about a week ago, and I still think it's a great game.

A game that I was looking forward to was FUEL but in the end was so fantastic, saved myself $80.
Halo series is pretty overrated.
Spore seemed to die down pretty fast after its release.
What ever happened to the game Stalker? With the tag line something like "Man Made Hell".
I find the Rayman series to be underrated, BEFORE the rabbids came in and invaded Raymans charm.
Also the orignal RollerCoaster Tycoon to amazing with its amount of choice, I'm still playing it.

Elder Scrolls oblivion! There is no character to the game since all the NPC's are just products of some generator. The combat sucks and consists of just flailing your sword around and running into the enemies. Also the adaptive difficulty ruins the rpg experience because you never really progress. Fallout 3 was better in every way. I actually somewhat enjoyed that game. (I quit elder scrolls after about 20 hours of boredom)

FFX (Final Fantasy 9) is overrated.

FFX happens to be Final Fantasy 10, not 9...
9 was NOT overhyped... it wasn't even well rated, when it was the best PS1 FF game in my opinion.
10... it was, I guess... Still, probably the last good final fantasy game.

The Halo series used to be overrated, but now it's gotten much more popular to hate it. I think the massive amount of criticism for the game comes from a backlash to the legion of fans that Halo has. They treat it like it's the best game ever made and people who would have once thought it was a good game claim it to be horrible to counteract the fans. So in this modern day, I'd say it's definitely underrated.

I'm not gonna waste my time saying what games are overhyped because there's just too many.

Overrated:
-GTA IV (Amazing game, but doesn't deserve the reviews it got)
-MGS4 (Again, amazing but doesn't deserve some of the reviews it got)
-Gears of War 2 (Got boring pretty quick, although still a great game)
-Killzone 2 (Amazing graphics, but the gameplay isn't special)
-Many more that I don't care to list

If you do, its the best game ever, if not just a fitting part of the best series ever.

Resident Evil 5 is really overrated in my opinion. It really just wasnt fun and I just didnt like it.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I liked some of the other Resident Evils

I love the stealth/action genre and love all the MGS games. I simply think it's a tad overrated by critics out there... But not by much.

IX is Hironobu Sakaguchi's favorite Final Fantasy game. It actually met very good review scores. Since it wasn't as sci-fi as VII or VIII and didn't have emo characters so the teenage boys and girls could appeal to, not many people gave it a chance.

Dude, you have no idea what you have just touched on.

RE5 was actually one of the most disappointing games of this decade. It's hype didn't just scratch the game, it decimated it.

After RE4, which is considered by many as one of the greatest games of all time, many were eagerly anticapting RE5, and then it came out and all the fans' dreams got squandered. It suffered stagnant reviews (at least for an RE game), but it still sold quite a bit of copies, which is the reason of the widespread dissapointment.

Gears of War 2 was overhyped to me at first, but now I kinda fell in love with the game.
MGS4 was not really overrated, well, at least not as the games listed here. It did go on to receive perfect scores from media outlets who hadn't given one in over 10 years, so I quess you couldn;t really call it overrated.

The most overhyped game ever has to be Final Fantasy VII and VIII (more so VIII.)

How is VIII more so? VII has sequels and a movie, and a MUCH larger fan base.

and VIII i my most favorite (FF Game, and one of my top), but meh.

anyway, how is that overhyped? That's called overrated.

Cause it sucks.

At least I'm not saying VII is worse. The storyline was good, characters (Cloud, Aerith, etc.) were bad. I've played it.

VIII might have been hyped but it was tons of fun, and it was a good thing that it was a whole new direction cause even a massive fan base doesn't always like more of the same.

??? RE5 is my 2nd favorite game on the 360 (next to SF4). I admit I was disappointed at first, because the game played and felt very different from what I was expecting, but after unlocking mercenaries and working towards achievements I became very addicted. hm, I guess it was still a little overhyped

Halo 2 (totally lackluster, and an overall disapointment)
Fable (promising 30 hours this game can be beat in about 10 hours)
Brute Force (supposed to be a tactical 3rd person shooter, but is just a run and gun mess)

30 hours of the game includes ALL quests. Not just the main one.
