I'm not sure if this exists on the forums already, but I created a little DLL that can set the screens brightness (The whole screen, not just the game display).

There are only 2 functions, Brightness_Init, and Brightness_Set. If you want, you can merge the scripts into one script to make it easier.

Basically 128 is the "middle" gamma and 0-127 is darker while 129-256 is brighter.

Always make sure to set the brightness to 128 when the game ends!

Download Zip with GMK and DLL

Example:

Brightness_Set(256);
//The above will make the screen as bright as possible.

Note this may not work on some graphics cards. It works on my crappy ATI Mobility so it should work fine on any decent computer.

very nice. I am actually going to use this. Does the brightness actually effect anything? (such as RAM or Processor usage?)

The DLL is based off of "SetDeviceGammaRamp" in window's gdi32.dll. I don't know exactly how that function works internally but I believe it simply configures the screen and doesn't use much/any graphics card/CPU power.

I'm definitely going to use this for my platform shooter, Rafika. However, I do also need a Contrast settings as well. These two settings combined make an awesome color-curve effect.
