Debug Beta Demo 002

Official Blogspot for Ballad of The Wind Fish
Ballad of The Wind Fish
May 3

The New Download is up.
Please visit the official blogspot page for the download link.

Information
This game is a re-imagining of Link's Awakening for the GameBoy (color). I loosely wouldn't use the word 'remake' as this game is quite different, being a full 3D environment similar to Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker. Please view the official Blogspot page for more information.

DOWNLOAD

Download Here

Game Information
GM Version: GM7
File Size: 15mb (zipped)
Screen Resolution: (800 x 600)
Changes Screen Resolution: no

MISC. Notes

* This remake game will attempt to recreate the Link's Awakening game experience in a new and up to date environment. While introducing new ideas, preserving the original spirit and style of the game is a priority.
* New 'remake' content will include new items, weapons, skills, treasures, dungeons, and dialogue.
* Seriously, I'm doing this for fun. If you don't like it and just want to complain about how I'm ruining your favorite game series in the whole world, find someone who cares. Have a nice day.

Was pretty good! Looks nice the walking animation looked a little twitchy that was about it though. And when running up the hill he holds his shield up like he ran into something! Ran perfect on my computer also!

Please change your file host... I hate this one as it is identified as a malicious resource and has loads of junk and adverts... try WillHostForFood or SolidFiles... Or at least post a mirror...

Thanks a lot for trying this, guys.

Sorry about the Joystick errors!! I left an old version of the script in the game. I'm not sure why the error is happening to some people and not to others though. I has been fixed and reuploaded.

Also, you would not believe the number of complaints I'm getting about Link and how he doesn't look like OoT/TP Link, and frankly, I'm already sick of hearing it. For Pete's sake, if you don't like this Link (As he is on the SNES/GB) then just go play TP!!! AH!!

On that note, it's those same people complaining about the outlines. Do you guys think I should remove them? I like them a lot as it gives the model a drawn sprite look, which is reminiscent of classic gaming.

Thanks again guys.

This game looks amazing! I downloaded WinRAR just for this! Will edit after playing...

EDIT: Very good! I think there should be a nice way of moving the camera, and the controls are quite strange. But the system and fluid movement is amazing!

I found a glitch, I was walking along the borders of the house and fell through the floor!

Looks awesome, downloading it now :(

EDIT:
This was the most awesome not-online 3d game I played...
I love the focusing.
But you need to let the camara go with your mouse...
The animation were awesome, and the cartoony explosions!
Keep up the nice work dude!

I played it a while, but I think you should smooth out the walking and collisions more. It feels a little clunky.
And you should put your HUD in the way Nintendo did. I know you don't want to copy it all, but it is the best layout.

Other than that, nice job! I like this project.

And about the outline, yes I think you should remove it. It makes it all look a little awkward. If you use textures like Wind Waker did, you won't be needing that outline and still make it look awesome. Not to mention removing the outline results in a performance boost! And I think adding shadows to it would also give a tremendous boost to the graphics.

And here's a tip: Some people have been making re-texture packs for Ocarina of Time for the N64 emulators on PC. It basically enhances or modifies all the textures in OoT. One of those packs happens to be in the Wind Waker style. I have it right here, and I have a feeling this is just what you need. Great texture resource for all your levels. Look it up! They're all in BMP or PNG format.

That's a nice design!
If you keep developing this game, it would be a great 3D game .. Really :(

Hey guys, thanks a lot for trying it. The collision engine will be fine tuned and adjusted as the project goes along and I haven't had a whole lot of time to focus on it yet. The house and map are both just tests are as such are pretty buggy. The environment can also swallow the Octoroks in certain points causing weird slowdown glitches.

As concerns for the HUD, it's pending. I know that everyone is used to seeing the HUD focused at the top (and it seems to make sense!) but for now I want to have everything at the bottom, as Link's Awakening seems to be the only game in the series that didn't have it at the top.

Also, allowing the mouse to control the came doesn't really make sense in a Zelda game. I am missing ONE feature to the camera, and that's tapping the Z button (SPACE in this case), causes the camera to jump behind link. I am also missing the "view" button which allows you control the Cam in first person mode while looking around. This will be added soon.

Thanks for all the suggestions and comments, I appreciate it. As for textures and level graphics, I'll be doing all those by hand when the time comes. I'm not using any downloaded resources as that removes the fun for me and the overall artistic value of the project, plus it preserves continuity. As you can tell and has been mentioned above, the level graphics at the moment are all very temporary. You might be able to tell from the existing textures (Link, Octorok) that I'm going for a drawing / colored pencil look to the shading and textures. The game will have real time shadows, and I may exchange the outlines for those instead.

I'm currently working on the Bow and the first person view, so sometime later today I will have that all sorted out.

Cheers!

Do not, i repeat, DO NOT remove the outlines! they give a bit more of a cartoony feel to it and it's great to be honest. I say keep it this way. Especially if you like. It's not your job to make someone's game or how they want it, but how you want it and your game. and if you like it keep it. i, for one, agree with you about them-they look nice.

Looks amazing, I didn't know Game Maker could produce those models.
