Was wondering if there was a way to test if your game (or any exe for that fact) will run on other operating systems (windows 95, 98, ME, XP, Vista, Mac, Linux/Unix)?

(In this case I'm wondering if my game made with all default GM7 commands (no outside DLL's) will run on other operating systems other than XP?)

GM only works on windows. Whether windows will support it depends on what version of GM you use. GM6 doesn't work on vista without the fix, and I think there are some problems with GM7 and anything older than XP. Search the forums and you should find out exactly what is supported.

Just get a computer running that OS and try running your game on it. It's that simple.

But so that you don't have to test yourself:
- GM5 works in Windows 95 and above.
- GM6 works in Windows 98 and above, excluding Vista (which requires the use of a converter).
- GM7 works in Windows 2000 and above.
- GM5, GM6 and GM7 games can't run natively in Mac OS (i.e. without Bootcamp), however there's a Mac port for GM in development.
- GM5 games work on Linux through Wine, but GM6 and GM7 are known to cause issues.

So if I made this game without any DLL's all in GM5 it is safe to say windows ME/2000 to the new Vista will work?

Wrong. I run GM5 games on my Vista laptop regularly, and without any glitches. I even have GM5 on it.

What I've provided are only general guidelines. Even if you have the OS required to run a program, there are configurations that can prevent you from doing so, such as permissions, hardware, and certain registry settings.
And if you don't believe me, I have a spare XP desktop that runs GM7 games just fine.

I thought it wouldn't work because of what KC LC said.

As a service to those who might download your game, you should provide some information about it, especially for Vista users who can't run GM 6 without converting them first.
